Blog day 2: Wednesday 25 March 2020
I think that I forgot to mention yesterday that the usual blog rules will apply in that there will be no food photos, unless I take a photo of my last tin of baked beans sometime in the distant future.
Further compulsory closures and limitations on public gatherings announced by the PM last night and by the Premier this morning. They are calling it stage 2 limitations. I don't think stage 3 is far away.
I am maintaining my daily routine with really only two rules, no television before 5.00pm and no alcohol before 5.00pm. So as you can imagine, on the dot of 5.00 the telly is on and the vodka is poured.
Just got back from my walk, I think that I am still allowed to do that, I didn't touch anything or anybody. The strip shops in Centre Road in Bentleigh East looks like what these streets used to look like on a Sunday afternoon before 24/7 trading. Most of the retail shops are closed, the cafes are open for take away only and the restaurants are opening midday and evening for take away or home delivery. Ironically the tobacconist shop is one of the only shops open. The IGA supermarket looked busy but not frantic. It looked like some tradies were working on the couple of apartment building sites I walked past. The Boundary Hotel is closed but their drive in bottle shop is open. Upon my return I washed my hands thoroughly whilst singing "Happy Birthday" twice to myself quietly. (No it is not my birthday but that is the recommended time for washing your hands. I could have sung "Stairway to Heaven" twice but that would have involved me washing my hands for about 14 minutes).

I see that the great corona virus experts Shane Warne and Brendan Fevola are now giving us virus advise, bloody hell!
Current virus stats Day 79
Vic: 466 infected (+55 from previous day)
Aus: 2,364 infected (+469) - 8 deaths
World: 417,084 infected
I have walked to the coffee shop at the end of my street yesterday and today (i'm also day 2 of working from home). I hope they can stay open for a while longer. I have avoided the shops by ordering important things like wine, powerboards, monitor screens and sunscreen online, for delivery or click/collect. I'm unsure whether the sunscreen will get much use, but there's no point in ageing my skin further due to negligent spf application.
ReplyDeleteThe wine was delivered today, to a supposed safe location - thankfully this translated to one of my neighbours apartment doorsteps, and he brought it back to mine. Depositing it on my doorstep before knocking and stepping back the appropriate distance!
Great read TAS and I am seriously considering the plight of someone in the DARK in Bentleigh East. First of all my suggestion is to turn on the LIGHT :)
ReplyDeleteI will add further inspiration in the days ahead! As there may be many I feel that in the interest of your mental health and wellbeing that these inspiring ideas should be released gradually to provide you with something to look forward too :)
Why 5pm? I think the winston churchill routine might be needed for these troubled times.
ReplyDeleteDamn I was hoping this would have some funny observations. Today i wondered if the deceased counted for 1 of the 10. Then tried to figure out why weddings can have 5 but funerals 10
