Blog Day 20: Sunday 12 April 2020 (Easter Sunday)

One of my many astute readers has asked how my French studies are going.  Well, at the moment they have ground to a bit of a halt.  As some of you may be aware my study of the French language has not been a happy one and has hit many speed humps (le speed hump?) along the way and in this particular instance it is a distinct lack of interest.  Usually my study of the French language is driven by an impending trip to France and a desire to indulge in lively banter with the locals in their native tongue.  (As we have discovered in the past I usually get around my lack of knowledge of the language by speaking louder and waving my arms around, this hasn't failed me so far although I have found the waving of arms around bit loses its effectiveness when trying to speak to a French person on the phone).  Anyway, as I can't see myself travelling to France in the near or distant future I am experiencing difficulty in motivating myself to learn the lingo.  As they say in France 'cest la vie' - 'such is life'.  Anyway why do they all have that atrocious French accent?

Well that filled up a paragraph.

After watching some free to air telly last night, thanks Jacqui for the heads up on the Bella Vista Social Club, I decided to watch some music videos on YouTube.  After watching my usual favourites of German marching bands, Choir Choir Choir (a Canadian pub choir), Katherine Jenkins singing anything and Heart singing Stairway to Heaven (highly recommended) I did my usual search for new talent.  In this search I have previously discovered First Aid Kit who do a great live version of the S & G hit America, anyway last night I found the Mona Lisa Twins (MLT).  MLT are two German girls who mainly sing cover versions of Beatles songs and other songs from that era and they are fantastic.  Being attractive in a Germanic way doesn't do them any harm as well.

Hmmm, the astute readers are out in force today.  Another of my astute readers has sent me a photo of what looks like a plank of wood on four stumpy little legs with the question "so what artistic creations have you built during the lockdown'?  I will save my response to that for a future blog.

Another blog that I regularly read has a bit of a foodie bent and provides detailed descriptions of their meals which seem to include things like larks tongues, baby abalone roe, wilderbeest testicles and the like.  Well last night I had fish and chips delivered courtesy of Uber.  I have resisted Uber eats for the last few weeks but last night I weakened and it was delicious.

Due to inclement weather I haven't been out for my walk for the last couple of days so must make an effort today.

Current Virus Stats Day 97

Vic: 1,268 infected (+3 from previous day) - 14 deaths (increase 0)
Aus: 6,315 infected (+43 from previous day) - 57 deaths (increase 1) Recovered 1,806
World: 1,773,358

Some of these figures look promising, particularly the increase from the previous day, lets hope that it isn't just a statistical glitch but something more meaningful.

  1. Another tv show I would recommend for you is the SBS Country Music - American country music from the 20’s to present featuring all your favourites performing at the “Grand Ole Opry”, which brings me to a memory of you standing on the Grand Ole Opry stage - if only I knew how to post a photo here.

  2. A lump of wood on four stumpy little legs. I'm not sure I would describe my magnificent piece of hardwood beautifully varnished as being a lump of wood with four stumpy legs. I look forward to your contribution of artistic craftsmanship in the future. Photos as well.

As for Google giving us the answer on how to post a picture, I did email you on how to set it up so that we could post a picture in the comments section and did I get a reply?? No, nothing, zero, zilch and Nada. My email probably went into Junk or have you blocked me???.

To your sister and niece in Tas, my brother is in Launceston and things don't sound like they are going very well over there as we speak. Police leasing out helicopters to fly around taking photos of car regos followed by a please explain letter as to why you were out and about during lock down. I believe your issues were due to one person who was rather stubborn turning up at hospital and infecting a lot in the process. The fact that this person has since passed away is not good so stay safe in Tas and it looks like it might get tougher sooner rather than later.

Your sister and niece sound so nice Graham, were you the black sheep of the family were you???

    1. Unfortunately I am a little hampered in making something by a lack of material, lack of tools and lack of ability. Sorry I didn't get back to you in response to your email, I tasked one of my staff with that but they are working from home so I have no idea what they are up to. 4,000 to 5,000 people in Burnie are in quarantine, that is more than 25% of the population of the town.

And finally contrary to poplar opinion the nice gene is very strong in my family, including me.
