Blog Day 31: Thursday 23 April 2020

We do live in troubled times.  We have all this corona virus stuff going on, although we seem to be climbing out of that a bit, and now we get the news that four police have been killed in a traffic incident on the Eastern freeway.

Two police pulled over a Porsche driver for speeding and gave him a drug test for which he allegedly returned a positive response.  Two more police arrived to assist with the arrest and seizure of the Porsche.  Whilst they were doing this a truck drove onto the emergency lane and into the Porsche and the police vehicles killing the four police officers.  And in a macabre twist the Porsche driver allegedly took some horrorific photos at the scene and then shot through and then shared the photos with some friends and posted them on Facebook, sorry I mean social media.  Reinforces my opinion of social media.

I have received reports from two of my correspondents that the CBD is like a ghost town. Jo said that there were crews of people spraying anything that wasn't moving, I suggested that she had better keep moving or she might end up with a spray and a wipe down.

I heard the Governor, Linda Dessau on the radio this morning discussing the arrangements for Anzac day.  Apparently at the usual time for the dawn service she will be laying a wreath on behalf of all Victorians in the Sanctuary at the Shrine accompanied by one Shrine guard member and it will be filmed by a fixed camera, so no camera crew will be in attendance.  The Shrine web page says that the service will be broadcast live from 5.50am on Facebook.

The Shrine web page also has details of the laying of wreaths to take place in the Sanctuary at 11.00pm on 24/4 and 25/4 instead of the various services that would usually take place leading up to and on Anzac day. These services will also be live streamed.

Who will be downloading the corona virus app when it is available? I will.

As you can see from the figures below the rates of infection seem to have declined significantly lets hope that this can be maintained.

Some famous person once said that the "price of liberty is eternal vigilance" maybe that is also the price of controlling the corona virus.
