Blog Day 55: Sunday 17 May 2020

Sunday today, beautiful autumn weather in Melbourne, Melbourne at its best.  

CD has advised us this morning that he has declared in his infinite wisdom that cafes, restaurants, bars and hotels will be able to reopen in a couple of weeks.  Initially the venues will be restricted to 20 patrons with all of the social distancing requirements to be observed.  This also means the venues like hotels will only be open for dining just having a casual drink at the bar still not allowed.  There is a timetable of some sort to allow for increases in patronage to 50 and then to 100 patrons over a period of time.  I daresay if there is a spike in our infection rates this program will be reviewed.

As usual CD had to make a production of this announcement and stated that further announcements will be made about playgrounds, gyms etc in due course.  Not going to chew up all of his grand opportunities at once.  It will be good when he stops grandstanding and just gets on with the job.

As usual the weekly international figures will be reported tomorrow.

Since the figures below were reported I think that both  NSW and Tasmania has recorded 1 further infection each and the Tasmanian one may have been sourced from the Ruby Princess.

Aus: 7,044 infected (+7 from previous day - 98 deaths (increase 0)

    Im with you on Andrews..

    why does he always have a cliff hanger like he is on a tv show? E.g. And after the break... I'll tell you about playgrounds and gyms...

    Of course there is always the possibility that he isn't telling us because he doesnt have a plan for it.

Blog day 3: Thursday 26 March 2020 Its funny to think that this time last year I was a couple of days away from heading off to Europe for 5 weeks, my how things have changed.  On that trip the only medical issues I needed to concern myself with was twisting an ankle on a cobblestone or recovering from a hangover, wouldn't want to be there now. Blog Day 116: Saturday 18 July 2020 Dreary, dull, grey day in Melbourne, maximum forecast temperature 13c.  If that doesn't cheer you up nothing will. As we all know, 'one swallow doth not a summer make".  Although it would be nice to take some comfort from the daily infection increase figure reported today.  At 217 for Victoria that is the lowest figure for nearly a week and is nearly half of yesterday's figure.  We will need to see if this reduced number continues or improves before the danger of a level four lockdown is removed. Of the 217 new infections, 11 are from known sources and 205 are under investigation.  Twenty eight thousand tests were conducted yesterday. Unfortunately we recorded two more deaths in Victoria, a male and a female both in their eighties. There is not much comfort in the daily world figures, still recording around the 250,000 mark each day.  The number of deaths doesn't give much comfort either, with 6,700 deaths reported yester...

Blog Day 522 - Sunday 05 Sept 2021 - Day 31 of Covid Lockdown V6.0 Extended   There was an interesting piece in The Australian newspaper yesterday with the headline "Catholic Health Plea to Protect Jab Objectors".  In part the article said, and I quote "Indeed Catholic teaching holds that no one should be forced to have a vaccine or be discriminated for exercising a conscientious objection". I would be interested which part of the bible discusses covid vaccinations or indeed vaccinations generally. I also like the story of the Sydney family who snuck into Victoria to visit family or friends and then snuck back into NSW using the backroads, naturally without any of the required permits or exemptions.  Everything was going hunky dory until the children of the family started boasting about their trip out of town to their mates at school.  SPRUNG!
