Blog Day 63: Monday 25 May 2020

A big step today and tomorrow with some of the students heading back to school.  Preps, years 1 & 2 and year 12's are back tomorrow with teachers back today for a student free day.  The schools have had to make special preparations for the arrival and departure of the children with limited entry points and not to be accompanied by parents.  I know of one school that will be taking the children's temperature before entry to the school buildings, using a non invasive thermometer of course.  This is a big step to getting things back to some degree of normality, lets hope it doesn't hit any hurdles.

GLD (Great Leader Dan) is suggesting that people continue to work from home, where possible, until the end of June.

For this weeks weekly stats I have added South Africa, India and the World.  I think that South Africa and India will be interesting to watch over the next few weeks and I have added the World purely for interest.

Spain and Italy reported around 1,000 deaths for the week and this was a good enough result for them to start to relax some of their iso restrictions.  The UK still had over 2,000 deaths for the week but France only recorded 250.  The USA advised an increase of 8,000 deaths for the week bring their total to 99,300 although New York recorded their first 24 hours with less then 100 deaths last week.

Brazil looks like it could be in a lot of trouble with 6,600 deaths for the week making a total of 22,700 deaths from 363,600 infections.  Russia has a similar number of infections to Brazil from a population two thirds of Brazil's but has reported only 3,500 deaths, methinks I smell a rat!

Poor old Belgium is still the leader on the deaths per million scoreboard.  I see that the medical staff at a hospital in Belgium turned their backs on their Prime Minister when he visited their hospital the other day as a protest against the inaction of the Belgian government to the virus crisis, and crisis they certainly have.

In the daily stats Victoria recorded an increase of two (both returnees from overseas who were in quarantine in a hotel) however the national total didn't change, not sure how that came about. Still when you compare our figures to the figures in the table above we are still managing this incredibly well, and saved $60 billion dollars as well.  Give yourselves a pat on the back.

Corona Virus Daily Stats: Day 140
