Blog Day 92: Tuesday 23 June 2020
Well, here we go again. Already there are stories circulating of panic buying in supermarkets with the usual culprit of toilet paper being one of the targets. It will be interesting when one day somebody tries to explain how and why this is happening.
Luckily I haven't broken into my corona virus iron rations of tinned corned mutton, delicious Croatian Hungarian goulash, and stash of vodka.
There are also reports of 3 to 4 hour waits at drive in testing centres in shopping centre car parks. Some testing centres are also closing due to the queues creating a traffic hazard on the roads around the centre. Of course if you play footy for a team in the AFL you can get tested immediately and the result back within hours. Easy to see where the priorities lie in this state.
Another bad day for Victoria. Of the 18 new cases reported Australia wide 17 came from Victoria. This is the 7th day of double digit increases in Victoria. Of these 17 cases, 1 is from hotel quarantine, 2 from known outbreaks, 3 from routine testing and 11 under investigation (I think that this is code for community transmission). DD stated at the news conference this morning "so what we can be certain of this that there will be some significant community transmission within those numbers". This is a bit jumbled but I think that we get the message. Nice of DD to drag himself away from the problems of the Labor party to front the media conference. Now he can get back to covering up the more important problems of the branch stacking scandal.
As I won the trivia quiz last Friday night I have to host the quiz this coming Friday night so I had better get stuck into creating some really clever and not too difficult questions. The production values bar for the quiz has been set extremely high over the last few weeks so I have some high standards to live up to, but equal to task.

City seems busy enough today, but quieter than last week I think. My building is at 40% capacity supposedly - but it's hard to gauge. I went out at lunch and there were more people around than in the morning, although the shops will still pretty empty. Noone else in Priceline, three people in Officeworks and one lady in the shoe shop. I think the busiest was the poke shop i got lunch from. There were two people dining in and two people waiting for takeaway orders. And i've managed three trips in the lift without any other passengers! a long way from the packed streets/shops/lifts of early March.
ReplyDeleteDrive through Chadstone and it seems like its a Christmas rush. Thousands of people shopping and I hear that some Businesses don't care and are just trying to make as much as they can.
DeleteJo, were you the one lady in the shoe shop?
DeleteNo there was a lady buying shoes when I walked in. But she left and no one else came in after me!
