Blog Day 108: Thursday 09 July 2020
Big day today, you will be getting two, thats right, two spreadsheets.
But first, the news that you have all been hanging out for, I have tested negative for the coronal virus.
Talk about deja vue, her we are again back at day one of 6 weeks of stage 3 lockdown.
I am still having trouble with this spreadsheet but you can see that Victoria has recorded 165 new infections for the last 24 hours. Nationally 179 new infections were recorded. Victorian hospitalisations stand at 41 out of 46 nationally. (I will need to do some more work on getting this spreadsheet into Blogger, but you can still get the idea for the time being).

Weekly world stats are as below.
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Brazil recorded 7,000 deaths for the last week, which is the largest number of deaths for the week on my spreadsheet. Mexico and the USA recorded over 4,000 deaths. Mexico's 4,000 deaths are from 275,000 infections, the USA 4,000 deaths are from 3,000,000 infections. Further investigation into the testing rates would be necessary to draw any meaningful conclusions from this.
The UK still reported over 600 deaths but Italy and France both just over 100 and Spain only 33. Sweden also reported 112 deaths. India has recorded an increase of 3,300 deaths for a total of 21,000 deaths from 770,000 infections.
I have to head out now on a clandestine operation to pick up a new filter for my vacuum cleaner, so good luck and best wishes for the next 6 weeks and hopefully I can get the spreadsheet sorted in the near future.
Well, it makes interesting reading when you go back in time to see the comments from everyone as Victoria finds out we have several outbreaks. Dan has just announced that only one tower remains in full lockdown with around 25% of residents testing positive with those number expected to increase. The other towers are stage 3 which is only leave home for those 4 reasons. Now to say I am angry is an understatement. Life was not going to return to 'normal' anytime soon but to have that freedom removed again is so annoying. I am very pleased you tested negative Graeme but once you go out and collect your filter for your vacuum cleaner, well you go back into the maybe category. Yesterday I took my 90 yr old mother for a drive to Sorrento for the reason it was the last day before lockdown. Lovely day, a bit of lunch, lots of yelling because she is deaf, lot's more yelling because she doesn't understand social distancing and screaming because she is 90 and thinks she has a right to push in. But at the end of it she enjoyed it so much she asked if we could do it again next week. Sadly I explained what lockdown meant, for the 100th time. It's very hard for the elderly that's for sure. It is going to be harder this time because we know what to expect from the first time. Maybe if it rained for 6 weeks it might be easier.
ReplyDeleteYou are such a good son. You are correct about being back in the maybe category, but the only answer for that is for everybody to be tested every day. Its all a matter of risk assessment, in my case when I collected my vacuum cleaner filter I didn't even go into the shop, they literally threw the thing at me from the front door. I drove straight there and straight home. And my vacuum cleaner wouldn't work without the filter so was I going to go without a vacuum cleaner for 6 weeks, I don't think so.
DeleteBut you are right to be angry, we shouldn't be in this situation.
Lockdown will be a little different for me this time - I'm back at school on Monday, and the senior school will all be back at school on Tuesday. Since I only teach in the senior school there will be pretty much no difference for me. I'm expecting that all other year levels in the high school will be remote for term 3. Not sure what the outcome for primary will be - I expect they will wait to see how the numbers go for the next 5 days and make a call from there.
ReplyDeleteLockdown but not...
Take care, don't go hugging any of those kids!
