Blog Day 109: Friday 10 July 2020

Saw a funny thing today, an older gentleman walking down Centre Rd wearing a mask, but the mask was down under his chin, so that he could smoke his cigarette.  He was also wearing one disposable glove on the hand that was holding his cigarette.  If we all have to wear masks that is how I am going to wear mine!

DD has told us today that we should be wearing masks where social distancing is impossible or difficult.  He did use the example of in a cab or uber or in a busy supermarket.  Some millions of masks are to be made available to Joe or Josephine Citizen, although as usual there is no detail on how this is going to work.  It would be nice to have a policy introduced with the infrastructure already in place to manage it.

I am using a new version of Blogger and hopefully it maybe a bit more user friendly for importing spreadsheets.  It also has a table function that may be useful, I have used the table function today.  The yellow line as at 09/07 is day one of this six week lockdown.

As we can see Victoria reported 288 new infections in the last 24 hours.  This is an extremely high figure by our standards (not so for most of the rest of the world), but this figure was as a result of 37,588 tests being conducted in the last 24 hours.  Obviously the more tests you do the more infections you find, hopefully by detecting these infections it takes the infector out of circulation and away from the infectees.

The hospitalisation and ICU admissions are both increasing but so far not translating into a significant escalation in the number of deaths.

Some daily world figures are in the table below.  Daily infections world wide seem to be running at around the 200,000 mark and daily deaths at around 5,000 per day.

That will do for today, hopefully the tables are clearer but they are more time consuming for me to complete.  What's that I hear you say? You could be right, what else have I got to do.

  2. What I am looking forward to see is the table by year, started in 2020 and now in 2025, here are the stats. Lockdown number 125 will be so much easier, I am sure of it. What's that you say, where is Qld. Ohh that's in another part of the world and you need international travel and a passport. I haven't seen it for a while but I look forward to going, one day. Maybe 2026 will be a good year. And thank you for the new table, so much better than those accountant spread sheets.

    1. By then FNQ will have seceded from Qld, probably been a civil war between the two new countries and we will still be in lockdown, not going anywhere. Thanks for the feedback on the table, lot more work for me, but that's OK isn't it!
