Blog Day 111: Sunday 12 July 2020

Some of you would be aware that I am a keen observer of human nature.  On my virus approved walk this morning I noticed something strange.  You may recall during Lockdown Mark 1 (LM1) I may have gently and politely commented that more bike riders were riding on the footpath.  At the end of that lockdown, for no apparent reason, the bike riders appeared to go back on the roads.  Well guess what, they are back on the footpaths!  What is it about a lockdown that makes bike riders think that it is ok to ride on the footpath, particularly given the roads have less traffic on them and should be safer.  Go figure.

I may have mentioned in the past that I have done some online courses through a website called FutureLearn.  They provide a link to various courses run by educational organisations throughout the world.  The courses range from short courses to diploma and degree level and many of them are free or a small fee applies if you want certification.  I am starting a course tomorrow that runs for 3 hours a week for 4 weeks, it is called "World War 1: Trauma, Memory, Controversy and is presented by Open University UK.  Should be interesting.

In the last 24 hours Victoria has reported it's second highest figure for new infections for the entire pandemic.  Victoria has also reported 1 more death, apparently a male in his 70's.  We also conducted more than 30,000 tests in the last 24 hours.  I suppose with that level of testing we are going to discover more infections which initially seems like a bad thing but is probably a good thing in the long run.

Not much change in the world figures.  Still nearly 5,000 deaths for the last 24 hours.

  1. Well done on the spreadsheet - keep your mask on and keep off the footpaths.
