Blog Day 122 - Friday 24 July 2020

My walk today took me along Centre Rd Bentleigh and included a visit to Woolies supermarket.  I reckon the number of people out and about seemed to be less than usual, although vehicle traffic seemed to be the same.  Everybody I saw were wearing their facemasks, even a jogger (well done that person), except for a smoker who had her mask down under her chin so she could suck on her fag.

We now have people who are refusing to give their details or details of their journey to police at the roadblocks.  They appear to be reading from a script that is apparently circulating on social media, well there is a surprise.  And guess what, the police are letting them get away with it.  Did I mention that these miscreants are then boasting about their deeds (misdeeds?) on the same social media.  I won't mention the social media site that is abetting this behavior but it's initials are FB.

Three hundred new cases reported in Victoria for the last 24 hours, this is significantly less than the numbers reported for the last three days.  Hopefully this is the start of a pattern of reduction in virus numbers, if not we will have a real problem.  Six people died in the last 24 hours, three in their 90's and three in their 80's, all in aged care facilities.  Somebody, somewhere, somehow will need to be held responsible for the nursing home debacle.  How would you like to be an 80 year old inmate, sorry, resident of a nursing home at the moment.

The tables were getting a bit unwieldy so I have reduced the world daily figures to the last seven days.  Worldwide the virus is increasing by more than 270,000 per day for the last couple of days.  With the exception of yesterday when more than 10,000 deaths was reported the last couple of days have reported more than 6,000 deaths.  The majority of the 6,000 deaths would be from the USA, Mexico, various South American countries and India.  Europe in the main seems to have things under control, relative to their earlier figures.

Remember: to ask "are you OK"?, to work from home when you can, wash your hands, keep your distance, keep your mask on, sneeze into your elbow (yuk), don't touch your face, press the traffic light button with your foot, eat your vegies, don't ride your bike on the footpath, sanitize often, keep your glasses unfogged, obey the police at roadblocks and be kind.

  1. I didn’t know that wearing a hat with your mask was compulsory?

    1. Not compulsory but gives me a certain air of mystery, I think.
