Blog Day 128 - Thursday 30 July 2020

Looks like I was a trifle optimistic yesterday with my view of the corona virus situation in Victoria.  The last 24 hours has been a shocker.

I must admit I find the latest in the AFL corona virus saga amusing.  The AFL is spending millions to keep the competition running and moving the players, officials and WAGS into quarantine hubs in Queensland.  And what do the WAGS do when they arrive, break quarantine of course, and what do you do when you break quarantine, you tell the world about it on social media.  The story I like is the wife of one of the players broke quarantine to go to a day spa and then posted it on social media.  I initially thought that she was just stupid but have just found out that she is probably greedy as well, as she most likely got paid for her social media post as she is an "influencer".  Nice work if you can get it.

As I said the figures for Victoria in the last 24 hours are a shocker.  After two days of declining infections Victoria has reported 723 new infections for the last 24 hours.  Victoria has also reported 13 new deaths, 10 of which were in the aged care system.  Out of a total of 189 deaths nationally for the entire pandemic Victoria has recorded 105 of them. We have been wearing masks for a week or so now, is it too soon to expect some improvement in the infection rates due to the wearing of the masks, if it is going to happen?

Still no mention of a stage 4 lockdown.

No good news in the world figures either.  Although some of the European hot spots were talking about a second wave through the week it is not appearing in the figures as yet.  Apart from the UK the European countries are all reporting less than 100 deaths for the week.  The UK reported 460 which is about the same as the previous week.

Last week there was a total of 40,000 deaths reported worldwide.  The USA, Brazil, Mexico and India were responsible for 24,000 of these deaths with the USA reporting nearly 7,700 for the week, Brazil also reported 7,300 deaths for the week.  Even with all the dramas that we currently have in Victoria there are obviously a lot worse places to be in the world.

Remember: to ask "are you OK"?, to work from home when you can, keep your vodka in the freezer, wash your hands, keep your distance, keep your mask on, sneeze into your elbow (yuk), don't sneeze with your mask on (yuk), don't touch your face, press the traffic light button with your foot, eat your vegies, don't ride your bike on the footpath, sanitize often, keep your glasses unfogged, obey the police at roadblocks, don't put your hat on the counter at the bakery (cause the lady will shout at you), don't go to work if you are crook, the lime in your V & T is a good source of vitamin C, don't go to a day spa and then boast about it on FB, and be kind.
