Blog Day 133 - Tuesday 04 August 2020
Just finished the Shrine volunteer zoom meeting. Amongst other things we discussed the movie "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence". A very strange movie set in a WW2 Japanese prisoner of war camp starring Tom Conti and David Bowie. My three word review "don't watch it".
Victoria reported 439 new infections and 11 deaths in the last 24 hours, bring to 147 the total of deaths in Victoria. Although the new infections are similar to the figure for the previous 24 hours the number of hospital admission has gone up by 40 from 416 to 456. The number of ICU patients is now 38 and increase of 3 from the previous day. I think that all of the 11 deaths were from the aged care system.
Some information is starting to come out of the enquiry into the hotel quarantine disaster. I haven't caught up with it all yet but it would appear that the people who were supposed to be providing security were overwhelmed by the behaviour of some of the people in quarantine. There will be more to report on this in due course.
I've got a photo to include in the blog but I am having trouble getting it off my phone onto my new PC, this can be something to look forward to on another day.
Daily world figures are remaining consistent although today's figure for new infections is in the low 200,000's instead of the high 200,000's. The daily death figures have been lower for the last two days. Is this a the turning of a corner or an aberration? Time will tell.
Today's figures as below:

Remember: to ask "are you OK"?, to work from home when you can, keep your vodka in the freezer, wash your hands, keep your distance, keep your mask on, sneeze into your elbow (yuk), don't sneeze with your mask on (yuk), don't touch your face, press the traffic light button with your foot, eat your vegies, don't ride your bike on the footpath, sanitize often, keep your glasses unfogged, obey the police at roadblocks, don't put your hat on the counter at the bakery (cause the lady will shout at you), don't go to work if you are crook, the lime in your V & T is a good source of vitamin C, don't go to a day spa and then boast about it on FB, pay with a card, don't use cash (because you are wearing a mask you could run away without paying) and be kind.
And now the State of Disaster remembers;
Remember: to stay indoors between 8.00pm and 5.00am, stay safe & stay strong, respect the 5km limits and be kind.
My highlight of the day was lawn mowing man cutting my grass in the hail - not being an essential worker, being out of his 5k radius and not wearing a mask.
