Blog Day 139 - Monday 10 August 2020

Beautiful winter's day here today, heading to a top temperature of 15 degrees.  I understand that this will  still be a bit chilly for some readers of the blog but it is OK by me.

Noticeably less vehicle traffic around today, maybe the message is getting through to people. A few people out walking kids and dogs but everybody I saw was wearing a mask.  I walked through the IGA car park which was less than half full so I am thinking the mini panic buying spree is over.

I have completed my four week course with FutureLearn on TGW and I have signed up for a new one, a three week course via the University of Newcastle titled "European Empires: An Introduction, 1400 - 1522".  My, that sounds interesting I can hear you all say.  Don't knock each other over in your rush to sign up.

Now for today's corona virus figures.  Victoria reported 322 new infections which means our new infections numbers are continuing to decline.  Anybody want to call that we have turned the corner on new infections.  Unfortunately deaths are continuing to increase with 19 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours bringing the state total to 229.  It is predicted that the death numbers will continue to rise to probably a peak of 30 a day as the recent record numbers of infections work their way through the system.

Of the 19 new deaths there was 1 male in his 50's, 1 female in her 60's, 2 males in their 70's, 1 male & 6 females in their 80's and 1 male and 7 females in their 90's.  Fourteen of these deaths came out of the aged care system.

There are 640 Victorians in hospital with the virus, 47 in ICU and of those in ICU 31 are on ventilators.

The world figures have been a bit lower for a couple of days now but probably too early to suggest that this might be a pattern. Please note that the worldwide virus infections cracked the 20,000,000 mark in the last 24 hours.

Remember: to ask "are you OK"?, to work from home when you can, keep your vodka in the freezer, wash your hands, keep your distance, keep your mask on, sneeze into your elbow (yuk), don't sneeze with your mask on (yuk), don't touch your face, press the traffic light button with your foot, eat your vegies, don't ride your bike on the footpath, sanitize often, keep your glasses unfogged, obey the police at roadblocks, don't put your hat on the counter at the bakery (cause the lady will shout at you), don't go to work if you are crook, the lime in your V & T is a good source of vitamin C, don't go to a day spa and then boast about it on FB, pay with a card, don't use cash (because you are wearing a mask you could run away without paying) and be kind.

And now the State of Disaster remembers;

Remember: to stay indoors between 8.00pm and 5.00am, stay safe & stay strong, respect the 5km limits, don't try & get a haircut, drink your coffee at home, don't dither at the supermarket checkout, don't get Jim's Mowing in to cut your grass, get some virus approved exercise and be kind.
