Blog Day 155 - Wednesday 26 August 2020

Lock me up and throw away the key, I am a corona virus criminal.  This morning on the radio a bloke was talking about being pinged by the police and given a stern talking to for putting his rubbish bins out after curfew.  Well if that's a crime consider me guilty your honour.  Every Sunday night I put my rubbish bin out and the last few weeks I have been doing it at 8.30pm which is after the curfew time of 8.00pm.  I have a very good reason for doing this although I am not sure if it would stand up in court.  You see the telly show Shetland finishes at 8.30 and the telly show Vera starts at 8.30 with a small interlude in between.  That small interlude is when I put my bin out.  If I miss the end of Shetland I won't know what is happening next week and if I miss the start of Vera I will be hopelessly lost for the rest of the show.

I know I am doing the wrong thing and I always check for any lurking rozzers or a Black Maria parked up the road, so far I have got away with it so lets keep this between you and me.

I was thinking about the school tours we used to do at the Shrine and wondering when we volunteers would be back there and doing tours again. Not in the near future I daresay.  Anyway, sometimes in our tours we would refer to things like rationing and curfews.  The school kids would either not know the terms or would look at us like these were things that happened a thousand years ago.  I think that these terms won't be as alien to the kids on their return in the future. They will certainly remember the shortages and rationing of toilet paper, the current curfew that we are all living under and the various other restrictions bought about by this virus.  Having experienced these things first hand might make it easier for them the grasp the difficulties facing the civilian population it times of war.

Victoria has recorded 149 new infections for the last 24 hours which is one more than the 24 hours prior.  We reported 24 deaths which is the second highest figure in Victoria for the pandemic.  There was 1 female in her 60's, 3 males in their 70's, 3 females & 7 males in their 80's and 6 females & 4 males in their 90's.  There is currently 578 Victorians in hospital and 39 in ICU.

In comparing Victoria to the total Australian figures, Victoria has experienced 74% of all infections, 84% of deaths and currently has 90% of hospital admissions.

The international figures show an increase in the daily infections and the daily death rate is back up over 6,000.  Further investigation and analysis of the international figures will be undertaken tomorrow.

And now the State of Disaster remembers;

Remember: to stay indoors between 8.00pm and 5.00am, stay safe & stay strong, respect the 5km limits, don't try & get a haircut, drink your coffee at home, don't dither at the supermarket checkout, don't get Jim's Mowing in to cut your grass, get some virus approved exercise, shop at Harvey Norman for good service, be honest, if in doubt wear a mask and a face shield, remember the fallen, get plenty of sleep, laugh at my jokes, have a virtual beer with a Vietnam vet, if you have to ask - the answer is no, remain vigilant, act responsibly, apologise if you are wrong, use Zoom to keep in touch, put your bins out before curfew and be kind.

  2. What is this I hear that families are being paid to say that the elderly are dying from Covid19 when they are really dying from something else?

    1. Haven't heard that one but sounds like a good conspiracy theory.

    2. I also heard this, but I'm not sure its true. Families have no say over what cause of death is listed on a death certificate normally, not sure why they'd get that power now
