Blog Day 167 - 07 September 2020

As you could imagine all forms of the media are full of "road map" stories, interpretations and opinion pieces.  You can pretty much find some sort of 'expert' to support your own opinion.

The medical professionals (and I am not talking about the local GP) seem to be broadly supportive of the road map process, but maybe they are not directly affected and can therefore take a higher level view.  The closer you get to the people directly affected the stronger the opposition to the process.  I am talking about the people involved in hospitality, retail, personal services and building industries.  These people are, in many cases, looking at not reopening until late November, and then only if the figures support it.  Remember that many of these businesses have been closed since March with possibly the exception of a few weeks in June before we went back into lockdown.

Some, especially the retail and hospitality associations, are claiming that the proposed daily infection figures for each step are unreasonable and possibly impossible to reach especially for the implementation of steps three and four.

Victoria reported 41 new infections in the last 24 hours and 63 in the previous 24 hours.  We reported 9 deaths in the last 24 hours and 5 the previous day.  There are 266 Victorians in hospital due to the virus down from 283 the day before and there are currently 25 Victorians in ICU and 17 on ventilators.

Today's figure of 41 is the lowest since 27th June, so that is good news and the hospital figures continue to decline which is also good news.

It would seem that that most important figure in the exit from lockdown is going to be the 7 day rolling average of new infections.  For the last 7 days the average new infections in Victoria was 76.  Remember, the daily average to move to the 2nd step of the road map is 30 to 50 new cases per day.  Got a ways to go yet.

Worldwide 228,000 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours and nearly 4,000 deaths, these figures are a bit lower than previously however this seems to be a bit of pattern for the Monday figures and they tend to go up again through the week.

And now the State of Disaster remembers;

Remember: Keep your aluminium foil hat on, please don't go to the beach, to stay indoors between 8.00pm and 5.00am, stay safe & stay strong, respect the 5km limits, don't try & get a haircut, drink your coffee at home, don't dither at the supermarket checkout, don't get Jim's Mowing in to cut your grass, get some virus approved exercise, shop at Harvey Norman for good service, be honest, if in doubt wear a mask and a face shield, remember the fallen, get plenty of sleep, laugh at my jokes, have a virtual beer with a Vietnam vet, if you have to ask - the answer is no, remain vigilant, act responsibly, apologise if you are wrong, use Zoom to keep in touch, put your bins out before curfew, don't smoke around your baby, keep your eye on the ball and be kind.

Comments

  1. I was talking to us lucky ones up hwre in FNQ about the situation on Victoria and there is some genuine sympathy for your plight even. Some are amazed at the fuckwit behaviour of the loonies who threaten to stuff it up for the rest but you're not alone. The cops busted a rave party of 300 on the weekend. I think it's time to put on the DPCU's and boots and declare martial law. And another thing.....

    1. I really don't know, the concept makes sense but there appears to be idiosyncrasies in the application, might make further comment in the blog once I get my head around it.
