Blog Day 182 - 23 September 2020

 A dog walked into a bar and the barmaid said "how's your day been"?, and the dog said "ruff".

I have discovered a council equally as stupid as any that we have here in Victoria.  The picturesque Tasmanian city of Burnie has just announced the appointment of their new council executive officer.  They have named Simon Overland who was probably one of the two worst police commissioners that Victoria has had since Sir Thomas Blamey wore the badge.

Overland's most recent job was as CEO of the Whittlesea Shire here in Victoria.  Said shire is now being run by a state government appointed administrator after the council became dysfunctional and collapsed.

If I was a ratepayer in Burnie and many of my readers are, I would be asking some questions as to the recruitment and appointment of Mr Overland.

The Hotel Quarantine enquiry rolls along with senior public servants providing totally incomprehensible non answers to questions.  The Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Kym Peake, gave a long and rambling response to a question and at the end of her response the counsel assisting the enquiry said with some exasperation in his voice something along the lines off "Ms Peake you have not answered my question but I give up".

A letter writer in today's Age reminded us of the John Clarke character in the TV show The Games where he was receiving his training prior to attending a government enquiry in which he was to use responses such as "not in my presence", "not to my knowledge" and "could I have a glass of water".  Sound familiar anyone??

The good news continues with the daily infection figures.  Victoria recorded 15 virus related deaths yesterday down from 28 the day before and the rolling 14 day average for metropolitan Melbourne is now just under 30.  We recorded 5 more deaths for a total number of virus deaths in Victoria of 771.  There are 75 Victorians in hospital due to the virus and 8 in ICU with 6 on ventilators.

The rolling 14 day average is as below;

22/09: Metro 32.8, Regional 1.6, Total 34.4
23/09: Metro 29.4, Regional 1.1, Total 30.5

The worldwide figures are following the usual pattern of creeping higher as the week continues usually from a weekend low.  Worldwide infections for the last 24 hours were 292,000 up from 251,000 the day before.  Worldwide deaths for the last 24 hours were a tad over 6,000 up from 4,000 the day before.

And now the stage 4 lockdown 2 week extension remembers.

Remember: to follow the legal instructions of a police officer, not to get carried away with false optimism (again), if you are going to run a road block do it when it is raining, tell the truth, don't go to any protests, avoid the City of Casey, ring before you dig, especially if it is a $7 billion project.

Comments

  1. According to Mayor Kons we are supposed to be excited about our new CEO as he has supposedly a lot of experience and ideas, then again a lot of us are not that excited with Kons either. Have a feeling that there has to be something in it for Mr. Kons. (time will tell)
    By the way the jokes are getting worse.

    1. Good luck with Kons and Overland running the place. Pleased that you are appreciating the jokes.
