Blog Day 201 - 12 October 2020

A lady walked into a bar and saw that it was full of crows, it was then that she realised that she had walked into a crowbar.  (The idea for this very funny joke provided by my sister).

Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.  The head of the department of premier and cabinet, Chris Eccles, has just resigned from his $600,000 a year public service job.  Eccles in his evidence to the hotel quarantine enquiry stated, under oath, that he could not recall speaking to the police commissioner on the phone in the crucial six minute period.  Eccles's phone records that he has now provided to the enquiry show that he did speak to the police commissioner in that 6 minute period.

Although he now has to acknowledge that he spoke to the police commissioner he now claims he can't remember what they spoke about.  He claims they didn't speak about security at the hotels. (What else would they have spoken about at that time)?

To give you an idea what is in Eccles' resignation letter the following is copied verbatim;

    "Under cross examination I provided an answer to a related question that was inconsistent with the totality of my evidence and the meaning I was intending to convey".

Taken from the script of yes minister maybe.

That's one minister and the most senior public servant in the state gone as a result of the hotel quarantine enquiry.  How many more to go?  Maybe the others will wait for the Royal Commission.

Another round of school students returning to school today.  I think that only leaves years 8, 9, & 10 to return in 2 weeks time.  One high school has not reopened today due to an infected child sitting the year 12 GAT test there last week.

Our new infection figures are slowly creeping up again with 15 new infections recorded in Victoria in the last 24 hours.  This is the highest figure since we last recorded 15 new infection on 6 October.  The good news is that we had zero deaths in the last 24 hours leaving our total number of deaths at 810.  We currently have 21 Victorians in hospital due to the virus with no patients currently in ICU.

Rolling 14 day figures;

11/10: Metro 9.3, Regional .4, Total 9.7
12/10: Metro 9.9, Regional .4, Total 10.3

Apparently mathematically we cannot reach the 14 day rolling target of 5 new cases by next Sunday.

The worldwide figures are a bit lower than the last few days but this is most likely as a result of the traditional misreporting of numbers over the weekend.

And now the stage 4 lockdown 2nd step restrictions remembers.

Remember: if you are doing anything wrong don't get caught, it could cost you $5,000!; you gotta wear a face mask no more face shields - thems the rules; somebody somewhere is testing your poo!; do not under any circumstances annoy a Cassowary; if you need a boost to your morale watch Zulu; keep to your 5km zone and if that doesn't include a beach don't go to the beach; try not to commit perjury (allegedly); to vote if you don't want a fine, show true grit.

  1. School was back today - lovely to see the kids again. However, considering that 17-19 year olds are pretty much like adults when it comes to transmission of the virus, I have a feeling we will be in lockdown again soon. It's hard enough to get kids to tie their hair back and tuck their shirts in. Now add social distance and mask. So essentially we just had thousands of students back, in a situation where they were not socially distancing and were not always follow the rules. 2 weeks from today I predict a spike in numbers...

    1. I fear that you might be right about the spike but hope that you are not.

    2. It worse now - kids and parents for the most part are largely apathetic to the whole situation. Some staff as well. We have no chance. Appears like it's spreading in NSW as well. Thankfully I was told that people in NSW are better behaved - although that did seem contrary to all available evidence...
