Blog Day 203 - 14 October 2020

There should be a travelling salesman joke here but unfortunately I can't think of one.  Will try and do better tomorrow.

The Chadstone cluster is continuing to wreak havoc around the state.  A travelling salesman roaming around the state whilst infectious from the Chaddie cluster has introduced the virus into at least two regional communities.  First up he travelled to Kilmore where instead of getting take away from a cafe which he was allowed to do he sat down and had a meal which he wasn't allowed to do.  This started a cluster in Kilmore.  He then travelled to Benalla but fortunately he didn't pass on the virus there.  The contact tracing and testing people did a great job and nipped the transmission of the virus in Kilmore in the bud.

However, the infected travelling salesman failed to tell anybody that on the way from Kilmore to Benalla he went via Shepparton where he visited certain places including Bunnings and had a haircut (not at Bunnings).  It was only when three cases popped up in Shepparton that the travelling salesman came clean and confirmed that he had been there.  Took him 14 days to admit to it.

The Chaddie cluster has now infected 40 people.  All this from one cleaner turning up for work whilst infected.

I attended an interesting AWM webinar this morning.  By way of background the AWM does a daily last post ceremony at the end of the day and as part of this ceremony they tell the story of a serviceman or servicewoman who has died in the service of Australia.  The person whose story is told could be from any of the services, conflicts and peacekeeping that Australia has been involved in and could be selected at random or by request of relatives or descendants of the deceased person.

One of the researchers from the AWM today talked about how they select the person and how they research that person for the story to be told.  Of course they use the military records and correspondence available through the records held by the AWM and the Australian National Archives but also newspaper collections through Trove for more personal information as well as information provided by family and friends.  Very interesting, to me anyway.

New infections for the last 24 hours for Victoria have come down a bit with 7 recorded, a decrease from 12 the day before.  But unfortunately after a period of minimal deaths we recorded 5 deaths in the last 24 hours bringing the state total to 816 and the national total to 904.  There are 23 Victorians in hospital due to the virus, an increase of 1 from yesterday but still none in ICU.

Rolling 14 day average.

13/10: Metro 10.0, Regional .4, Total 10.4
14/10: Metro 9.5, Regional 0.6, Total 10.1

Worldwide figures are creeping back up again after the lower figures over the weekend with 315,000 new infections and 5,000 new deaths.  Apparently the UK figures are blowing out, I will have a look at that tomorrow.

And now the stage 4 lockdown 2nd step restrictions remembers.

Remember: if you are doing anything wrong don't get caught, it could cost you $5,000!; you gotta wear a face mask no more face shields - thems the rules; somebody somewhere is testing your poo!; do not under any circumstances annoy a Cassowary; if you need a boost to your morale watch Zulu; keep to your 5km zone and if that doesn't include a beach don't go to the beach; try not to commit perjury (allegedly); to vote if you don't want a fine, show true grit, tell your children not to get involved in politics.
