Blog Day 207 - 19 October 2020

Although the barber shops are allowed to open there wasn't much chance of me getting a haircut.  When I walked past my local barber shop at about 11.00 this morning there were 9 or 10 scruffy looking blokes standing outside, two more waiting inside and four barbers cutting away.  I decided I can go a little longer both in time and hair until the rush is over.

As always I am compliant to requests of some of my many readers and here are a couple of photos taken this morning, unfortunately I can only do before photos, the after pics will have to wait.

After a little grooming

There is a lot of disappointment around today after yesterday's announcements of the relaxation of the current lockdown rules.  The hospitality and retail businesses are concerned that at the moment they face another two weeks of not being able to trade with only the possibility of reopening next week if the figures, as defined by the premier, are looking OK.

I am not sure how long our CHO will be around, it is now claimed that he was in a meeting of the national health group where the New Zealand bubble was discussed and the possibility of people travelling legitimately interstate upon their arrival in Sydney.  Either this message wasn't passed onto the premier or the premier chose to ignore it to try and score points of the federal government.  The truth is getting harder and harder to find at the moment.

The CHO has now had a couple of lapses of judgement and loss of memory of certain events, possibly understandable given the pressure he has been under, but might be time for a break.

Today's new infection figures for Victoria are up 100% in the last 24 hours from 2 to 4, apparently all in metropolitan Melbourne.  There has been one death reported in Victoria in the last 24 hours, our first in 6 days.  This takes the total number of deaths in Victoria to 817 and nationally to 905.  There are 12 Victorians in hospital due to the virus and none in intensive care.

14 Day Rolling Average;

18/10: Metro 7.5, Regional .5, Total 8.0
19/10: Metro 7.2, Regional .5, Total 7.7

Worldwide, a daily increase in infections of 331,000 and deaths of 4,100.  These figures are lower than the last few days but most likely as a result of the the usual weekend reporting aberration.

Remember: we still can't walk into a bar and get a beer.

  1. Well at least you haven't lost your memory through all this Iso. Thanks for the images, if I didnt know you better I would probably cross to the other side of the street. Bit of shiftiness in those eyes.

    1. Still as sharp as a tack. Not much I can do about the shifty eyes, they are hereditary.
