Blog Day 211 - Saturday 24 October 2020 - AFL Grand Final Day

A man walked into a bar looking upset and asked for a large brandy, the barman said "you look very upset what has happened"? The man said "a container of car parts fell out of a plane and nearly hit me, it was raining Datsun cogs"!

Talking about rain it has been bucketing down here all night and at 11.00am in the morning it is still raining.  It will be a slow track for the Cox Plate this arvo.  Look for the mudlarks if you are having a bet. How is that for some horse racing lingo.

Having a look at the rain radar to see when I can get out for my walk, it might be a case of coats on and get out there.

As the song goes we have finally got to that 'one day in October'.  Well done to the AFL and teams in getting to this day in a very difficult year for all concerned.

The state has reported a 700% increase in new cases in the last 24 hours being 7 new cases compared to 1 new case in the previous 24 hours.  Most of the 7 new cases are concentrated around a northern suburbs cluster that has resulted in the closure of 2 schools for a fortnight.  The premier has said that they are dealing with community and faith leaders in getting the message to the community groups involved.  The authorities have been very careful not to name any specific ethnic group but I have heard a whisper that its the Irish!

So, 7 new infections for the state in the last 24 hours, no new deaths with the death toll in Victoria remaining at 817 and the national death toll of 905.  There has been no new deaths reported in Victoria for 6 days.  Victoria has 8 people in hospital due to the virus and none in ICU.

Rolling 14 day average:

23/10: Metro 5.5, Regional .3, Total 5.8
24/10: Metro 5.0, Regional .2, Total 5.2

Although the premier has been suggesting all week that there may be some significant relaxation of the lockdown rules on Monday he is now saying that any relaxation will be dependant on testing and infection numbers over the next 24 hours.

Worldwide there were 468,000 new infections and 5,900 new deaths in the last 24 hours.  Although these figures are fluctuating a bit on a daily basis there is no long term reduction in either new infections or deaths.  The previous day's new infection figure of 531,000 is the highest daily figure since I have been keeping records on 7/7, the death figure that day was 7,000 which is also one of the highest that I have recorded.

And now the stage 4 lockdown 3rd step restrictions remembers;

Remember: we still can't walk into a bar and get a beer; no matter how hard we try sometimes the figures just don't add up; if you are subpoenaed to produce documents to produce all of them!; to gamble responsibly.
