Blog Day 214 - Tuesday 27 October 2020

After yesterday's big announcements there is certainly a different feeling around Melbourne.  Generally there is a feeling of relief, possibly even confidence and people are looking forward to being able to get out and about.  Although there are still limitations on distances than can be travelled and numbers that can gather for shopping, entertaining and visiting.  Melbournians still can't travel to regional areas or beyond 25 km from home.  However looking at a map it is amazing how far 25km in a straight line is.

This morning the premier announced the rules for visiting other households.  Under the new rules each household can have "one visit event each day".  A visit is limited to 2 adults and any dependants that can't be left on their own and the householder must keep a visitor record.  What this means is that if I visit someone's house I can't visit another house or have a visitor at my place in the same day.  However, the clock is reset the following day and I can either visit one household or have a visitor to my place.

Still no word on when cinemas, galleries and museums can open, so I still don't know when I will be back at the Shrine.

There are now no time limits for being out of the house and the four reasons for being out of the house no longer apply.

The figures for the state are continuing to look good with no new infections or deaths in Victoria in the last 24 hours.  Out of 15 people in hospital Australia wide due to the virus there are 5 Victorians.  There are no Victorians in ICU due to the virus.

However, a word of warning, NSW reported 12 new infections in the last 24 hours and 10 of these are overseas travellers in hotel quarantine.  As some stage Victoria will have to start accepting overseas travellers returning Melbourne, will we be able to handle it?? Do we want to risk it???

Rolling 14 Day Average:

26/10: Metro 3.6, Regional .2, Total 3.8
27/10: Metro 2.8, Regional .2, Total 3.0

(Even our quill pen and abacus tracking and tracing should be able to keep up with these numbers).

There are a lot of countries that would currently like to be in our position.  New infections worldwide in the last 24 hours were 454,000 and 5,708 deaths.  If previous weeks are anything to go by these figures will increase as the week progresses.

And now the stage 4 lockdown 3rd step restrictions remembers;

Remember: we still can't walk into a bar and get a beer; no matter how hard we try sometimes the figures just don't add up; if you are subpoenaed to produce documents to produce all of them!; to gamble responsibly; don't take your eyes off the ball; keep your visitor log book.

  1. I just hope madness doesn't set in and you end up with crowds like before. No one wants a third wave eh?

    1. From what I have seen on my walk this morning a 3rd wave isn't beyond possibilities.
