Blog Day 215 - Wednesday 28 October 2020

Nice spring day today and people and traffic are certainly out and about, even the learner drivers are back on the road.  Nice to see the shops and cafes open.  One of the cafes near me who weren't too particular about the rules during the last break from lockdown are at it again, people hanging around outside in groups, not wearing masks and sitting in groups at the outdoor tables.  One young lady smoking outside the cafe wasn't  wearing a mask at all not even in the traditional position under the chin and staring defiantly at anybody walking past as if challenging somebody to say something to her.

I happened to be walking past the barber shop in a lull in the business and got a hair cut and a corona compliant beard trim, no more santa clause jokes  and my hat fits me again..

Today I finished my 2nd box of face masks so that is 100 down and how many more to go?  The premier is telling us that we will be wearing masks until at least after christmas.  If that is the case that is going to be a pain in the backside, and that isn't even where you wear your mask.

We have just been advised that the MCG has been confirmed as the venue for the boxing day test so that is good news.  Didn't want to lose that to some other state, did we?

Victoria reported two new cases in the last 24 hours who are both close contacts of people already in quarantine.  Nationally 12 new cases were reported with the majority in NSW and Qld being returned overseas travellers in quarantine.  Victoria has reported 2 new deaths bringing the state total to 819 and the national total to 907.  The premier told is this morning that these deaths "were from some weeks ago", I am not sure how that happens.  Victoria is down to 3 people in hospital due to the virus out of a national figure of 13 and we don't have any in ICU.  Nationally there is one person in ICU.

Regional Victoria is currently reporting no active virus cases.

Rolling 14 day average;

27/10: Metropolitan 2.8, Regional .2, Total 3.0
28/10: Metropolitan 2.7, Regional 0, Total 2.7

Lets keep up the good work.

Worldwide figures are still scary, 458,000 new infections and 6,800 new deaths in the last 24 hours.  If this follows the usual pattern these figures will continue to climb until Friday or Saturday then decline for a few days and then start to increase again.  A more detailed look at the international figures tomorrow.

And now the stage 4 lockdown 3rd step restrictions remembers;

Remember: we still can't walk into a bar and get a beer; no matter how hard we try sometimes the figures just don't add up; if you are subpoenaed to produce documents to produce all of them!; to gamble responsibly; don't take your eyes off the ball; keep your visitor log book; don't hang around smoking outside a cafe.

  1. I just read this - apparently there is a hotline you can call.
    "Mr Andrews urged Victorians who spot businesses flouting COVID-safe rules to phone the coronavirus hotline (1800 675 398), saying "it's everybody's business"/

    I say if some f$%!wit wants to endanger the whole economy/state then they deserve what they get.
