Blog Day 121 - Tuesday 03 November 2020 - Melbourne Cup Day

Public holiday in Melbourne today for the race that stops a nation.  Thank goodness for the day off as I think that we all need the break.  Of course a very different race meeting today as there will be no public at the track.

The forecast for today is 30 degrees which will mean that it is the warmest Melbourne Cup day for something like 10 years.  It also means that under normal circumstances there would have been a lot of very drunk sunburnt people at Flemington at the end of the day.  I daresay a lot of those people will be going to the beach and getting drunk and sunburnt there.

I didn't have a bet on the first race which was won by a 40/1 outsider, would have been nice to have my $5 each way on that one, but alas not to be.  Plenty more races to make my fortune, might even have a bet on the Dapto dogs.

Picked up a place in the 2nd race and I think that I still lost money, anyway plenty more opportunities to come.

Well, the sun is over the yardarm so must be time for the traditional Melbourne cup day drinkies.

I have just realised that I can bet on the outcome of the US election on my TAB account, so as I think I have the winner worked out I might put the house on that, play my Trump card so to speak.

Briefly, today's figures.  Victoria recorded no new infections and no new deaths in the last 24 hours, will we make it to 007 day?  There were 6 new infections Australia wide with 3 in NSW and 3 in Qld, 2 of the NSW and all 3 of the Qld infections were from overseas travellers in hotel quarantine.

Rolling 14 day average for Vic;

02/11: Metro 1.9, Regional .0, Total 1.9
03/11: Metro 1.9, Regional .0, Total 1.9

Worldwide 507,000 new infections and nearly 6,000 new deaths.

And now the stage 4 lockdown 3rd step restrictions remembers;

Remember: Apparently we can walk into a bar and get a beer; no matter how hard we try sometimes the figures just don't add up; if you are subpoenaed to produce documents to produce all of them!; don't take your eyes off the ball; keep your visitor log book; don't hang around smoking outside a cafe; don't travel to Peru; gamble responsibly; continue to wear your mask responsibly especially at the beach; be careful drinking and gambling, dangerous combination!.
