Blog Day 122 - Wednesday 04 November 2020

Not the best day on the punt yesterday although I did have one decent win and a couple of places so there are still some funds sitting in the betting account, but not quite as much as I started out with.

I have also had a small wager on the US presidential election, lets see how that goes.

A bit early for any meaningful results to be coming out of the US just yet, but hopefully the result will be clear enough one way or the other by tomorrow's blog.

I daresay you have seen that there has been some terrorist attacks in Vienna in the last 24 hours with 4 people being killed.  One of the attacks was on the main synagogue in Vienna which was not far from where I was staying when I was there last year.  I often walked past and there was always a strong security and police presence directly in front of the synagogue and also in the general area.  A police van with a couple of armed police in it was usually parked near my hotel. 

The synagogue is in an old part of town and very close to a popular entertainment area with lots of bars and restaurants. This area is popularly known as Bermuda, cause like the Bermuda Triangle once you go in there it is difficult to get out.  See, the Austrians do have a sense of humour.

There was a protest march in the city yesterday involving the usual suspects, not sure how many protesters were involved but there was over 400 arrests.

It was a hot day yesterday with lots of folk at the beaches and lots of folk deciding that they didn't have to wear their masks at the beach.  Lets hope that there are no repercussions from that behaviour.

Once again Victoria has reported a double zero day, that is no new virus infections and no new virus deaths.  The new infections result is based on the outcome of 17,000 new tests, which is a reasonably high test number, so people would appear to be getting tested when necessary.  Nationally there were 11 new infections with 9 in NSW and 2 in Qld.  Six of the NSW and both of the Qld new infections were overseas travellers in hotel quarantine.

As at today Victoria has 30 active cases, NSW 49 and Qld 8.

04/11: Metro 1.7, Regional .0, Total 1.7

Worldwide there were 516,000 new infections for a total of 48,000,000 and 8,631 deaths for a total of 1,220,000.  I think that the death figure is one of the highest recorded.

Remember: Apparently we can walk into a bar and get a beer; no matter how hard we try sometimes the figures just don't add up; if you are subpoenaed to produce documents to produce all of them!; don't take your eyes off the ball; keep your visitor log book; don't hang around smoking outside a cafe; don't travel to Peru; gamble responsibly; continue to wear your mask responsibly especially at the beach; be careful drinking and gambling, dangerous combination!.

Blog day 3: Thursday 26 March 2020 Its funny to think that this time last year I was a couple of days away from heading off to Europe for 5 weeks, my how things have changed.  On that trip the only medical issues I needed to concern myself with was twisting an ankle on a cobblestone or recovering from a hangover, wouldn't want to be there now. I am wondering where the extinction rebellion people have got to, they seem to gone very quiet, maybe they are lining up in the Centrelink queues to take money from a government they despise from a society for which they have no respect. Blog Day 522 - Sunday 05 Sept 2021 - Day 31 of Covid Lockdown V6.0 Extended   There was an interesting piece in The Australian newspaper yesterday with the headline "Catholic Health Plea to Protect Jab Objectors".  In part the article said, and I quote "Indeed Catholic teaching holds that no one should be forced to have a vaccine or be discriminated for exercising a conscientious objection". I would be interested which part of the bible discusses covid vaccinations or indeed vaccinations generally. I also like the story of the Sydney family who snuck into Victoria to visit family or friends and then snuck back into NSW using the backroads, naturally without any of the required permits or exemptions.  Everything was going hunky dory until the children of the family started boasting about their trip out of town to their mates at school.  SPRUNG! Blog Day 589 - Tuesday 16 November 2021 - Day 18 of Covid Normal The Andrews government have back pedalled a little with their new draconian pandemic legislation.  The fine for individuals breaching the new pandemic rules has been reduced from $92,000 to $45,000 for individuals.  That is a relief, far better to be fined $45,000 than $92,000, I wonder if you could enter into a payment plan?   There is still a lot of opposition to the legislation from the most unlikely of bedfellows, including the Human Rights Commission, the Melbourne legal profession, the usual suspects of various flag waving ratbag groups and anti vaxxers as well as regular members of the public.
