Blog Day 220 - Monday 02 November 2020

Sad to hear of the death of Sean Connery today.  I think that I have previously commented in this blog that I was surprised to learn that he had turned 90.  Apparently he was suffering from dementia and had been unwell for some time.  Naturally he will be remembered as the first James Bond and in my estimation the best James Bond although Daniel Craig comes pretty close.

He hit his straps as an actor after his James Bond days particularly as the street smart Irish cop in the The Untouchables.  And who could forget his role as the Russian submarine commander with the Scottish accent in the Hunt for the Red October.

I am thinking that if Victoria reaches 7 days of zero new infections and zero new virus related deaths we should declare it James Bond/Sean Connery day, 007, get it?

So far, as at today we have reached three consecutive days of zero new infections and zero deaths so a ways to go to 007 day.

Melbourne cup day tomorrow and even though nobody can attend the race course there is still a bit of a buzz of excitement around the place in anticipation of the big day.  As well as reopening my long dormant TAB account I have also taken a couple of horses in my sometime workplace office sweep.  Money for jam I reckon.

Twenty five degrees today and forecast 29 tomorrow.  We have been advised that if you go to the beach all social distancing rules will be applied and policed and masks must be worn except when actually in the water having a swim.  Forgive my cynicism but what are the chances of any of that happening??

As stated above Victoria has recorded zero new virus infections in the last 24 hours and no new virus related deaths.  NSW recorded 7 new infections although 6 of those are returned travellers in hotel quarantine.  Victoria has 49 active cases and NSW 48.  Out of 17 people in hospital Australia wide only 2 of those are in hospital in Victoria and none in ICU.  Victoria is still testing reasonably large numbers with nearly 13,000 people tested in the last 24 hours.

The 14 day rolling average figures are also looking good as detailed below;

01/11: Metro 2.2, Regional .0, Total 2.2
02/11: Metro 1.9, Regional .0, Total 1.9

The worldwide figures are lower with 431,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 4,900 new deaths.  We can expect these figures to rise again as the week continues.

And now the stage 4 lockdown 3rd step restrictions remembers;

Remember: Apparently we can walk into a bar and get a beer; no matter how hard we try sometimes the figures just don't add up; if you are subpoenaed to produce documents to produce all of them!; don't take your eyes off the ball; keep your visitor log book; don't hang around smoking outside a cafe; don't travel to Peru; gamble responsibly; continue to wear your mask responsibly especially at the beach.
