Blog Day 152 - Friday 04 December 2020

All the zeroes again for Victoria.

Poo Patrol Report: Traces of the virus have been detected in sewage (or to put it more politely - waste water) in the Daylesford, Hepburn Springs area.  Further investigations are being undertaken.

The Minister for Police, Lisa Neville, assured us on the wireless early in the week that ADF personnel were scheduled to arrive yesterday.  As at 12.23pm in the afternoon today, no ADF personnel have arrived in the state. Remember Victoria's hotel quarantine program fires up again on Monday.  Ms Neville has assured us the ADF personnel are arriving this afternoon, all 100 of them.

The UK is scheduled to start vaccinating people this week.  That has to be good news for the UK and the rest of the world.  As things stand at the moment we can sit back for a few weeks and see if any of the poms start to grow hair on the palms of their hands or develop facial twitches as a result of receiving the vaccine.

Not only is the Australian Open going ahead on 8th Feb next year the state treasurer, Tim Pallas, has now said that the State of Victoria will subsidise TA's costs of the event.  TA has previously said in the negotiations over the AO that they had a war chest of $80m which was sufficient to cover the additional costs.  Some of the extra costs are quarantining costs.  Excuse me, a first round loser in the AO gets paid $100,000 - the winners get paid millions - would it be too much to expect the players to cover their own quarantine costs and those of their entourages.

Once again the people of Victoria have been played for suckers.

Worldwide 699,000 new infections and 12,800 new deaths in the last 24 hours have set new records for these figures.  Worldwide the number of infections for the pandemic has well and truly cracked the 65 million mark and the number of deaths now exceeds 1.5 million.

NSW has also reported one new infection in the community apparently a worker in one of the quarantine hotels has tested positive and has caught public transport whilst infectious.  Lets hope their virus tracing system works and they jump on it hard and fast.

Update on national figures tomorrow.
