Blog Day 153 - Saturday 05 December 2020

Another day of all the zeros for Victoria, although interesting to note that lots of people are still wearing masks, even outdoors where they are not compulsory.

Poo Patrol Report: Nil to report on the poo front today.

Tomorrow, Sunday 06/12, is the last day in the current 14 day cycle of virus restrictions so we are all expecting further announcements from the premier regarding relaxation of the current restrictions.  The most likely changes are to allow up to 30 visitors to a household at a time and to increase the number of patrons allowed in hospitality premises at a time.  Possibly up to 100 patrons in a venue subject to social distancing rules.  (This new 100 patron limit is possibly why the Shrine volunteer lunch can be held in the Town Hall.  We have been told that there is a strict 100 person limit and our function is being held in the town hall ball room instead of the smaller supper room where it is usually held).

There is also an expectation that the rules covering the wearing of masks maybe further relaxed.

International flights start arriving in Melbourne in Monday, initially limited to 160 passengers arriving per day.  The arrangements for quarantine appear to be far more stringent and better organised than the last catastrophic go at it.  There appears to be very well defined lines of authority and responsibility.  Of course this time around there has been a lot more time available to put it together and the benefit the quarantine enquiry initial report identifying a lot of the shortcomings of the original program.

There are 125 travellers arriving on Monday and they are from Colombo, Doha, Hong Kong and Singapore.  I am wondering if some of these travellers are actually transiting through these countries.  Doha (Qatar), Hong Kong and Singapore could all be transit ports for flights from Europe.

Day 36 for the zeros for Victoria.  Australia wide there were 4 new infections reported, 2 in NSW and 2 in Qld, all returned overseas travellers.  There were 7,700 test received in Victoria in the last 24 hours, nearly 12,000 in NSW, nearly 3,000 in Qld and just over 3,000 in SA.  Victoria has zero active cases, NSW 1, Qld 11, WA 14, and NT 13.  Australia wide there are 47 active cases of which 39 are returned travellers.

Still no good news worldwide, 696,000 new infections reported worldwide for a total of 66,211,000 infections worldwide for the pandemic.  There were 12,500 new deaths reported worldwide in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of deaths worldwide to 1,524,000.  These figures are marginally less than the previous 24 hours.

Remember: Wear your mask when you are buying your Bunnings sausage; no holidays in Britain for a while yet; be careful planning your computer upgrades (my most recent upgrade cost me $1,400); somebody is probably checking your poo; if in doubt get tested (it doesn't hurt, honestly); get the catgut strings in your tennis racket checked.
