Blog Day 155 - Monday 7 December 2020

Another day with all the zeroes in Victoria.

Poo Patrol report: "Nothing to report here sir! All clear, so to speak".

Put this in the "here we go again file".  We have been constantly assured that all overseas travellers going into mandatory 14 hotel quarantine will have to pay $3,000 per person for the privilege. Well guess what, the government has not passed the necessary legislation to charge people for their quarantine.  Therefore until this legislation is passed the long suffering Victorian taxpayer is picking up the tab.

Part of the deal was that initially this state would only take 160 overseas travellers a day to make sure that the system worked before taking larger numbers.  There 8 overseas flights coming into Melbourne today, does each aircraft only have 20 passengers or are we being sold another pup.

There is a little more now known about the German couple who managed to escape quarantine in Sydney and make their way to Melbourne.  Apparently they were an elderly couple, the male gave his place of birth as Austria and the female Germany, but strangely they were travelling on Argentinian passports. The male, who gave his name as Herr Schickelgruber had a funny little moustache and his wife who would have been quite a looker in her day (in a Germanic sort of way) was wearing Bavarian traditional dress.

Herr Schickelgruber became quite angry when the NSW police officer asked him for his papers, and said "papers you vant mein papers? Don't you know who I am? Dumbkopf"! and smashed his fist on the table.

Herr Schickelgruber's passport photo.

The police officer thought that Herr Schickelgruber looked like a decent, hard working, honest man who wouldn't tell a lie (or try to conquer the world for that matter), so he let them go without inspecting their papers.  Herr Schicklegruber was so grateful he said that he would write to the Herr Commissioner of Polizie and recommend the police officer for promotion to Stormenfuhrer and then pinned an Iron Cross 1st class on his chest.  The police officer hadn't heard of this rank before, but what the heck promotion is promotion and a medal is a medal.

I think that we are up to day 38 of the all the zeroes.  That will obviously and unavoidably change with Victoria now taking overseas travellers in.  There were 7 new cases reported Australia wide in the last 24 hours, all of which are returned overseas travellers.  There are 46 active cases nationally and 43 of these are returned overseas travellers.  Victoria received the results of nearly 5,000 tests in the last 24 hours, NSW 6,200, Qld 1,325 and SA 1,400.

Qld needs to lift its testing game or certain FNQers won't be allowed to visit Victoria for christmas.

Worldwide the new infection figures were lower at 522,000 for the last 24 hours and new deaths were lower at nearly 7,000 for the twenty fours.  But given the cycle of these figures I wouldn't be getting too excited just yet.

Remember: Wear your mask when you are buying your Bunnings sausage; no holidays in Britain for a while yet; be careful planning your computer upgrades (my most recent upgrade cost me $1,400); somebody is probably checking your poo; if in doubt get tested (it doesn't hurt, honestly); get the catgut strings in your tennis racket checked; as from 11.59pm tonight you can have a beer at the bar; keep an eye out for Germans with funny little moustaches.
