Blog Day 160 - Saturday 12 December 2020

Did you hear that in Germany they are using snakes as to keep the water off their car windows, they are called vindscreen vipers.

Many thanks to Leanne, one of my regular readers and correspondents for the delivery of birthday balloons yesterday.  And thankyou to everybody else for your birthday greetings and best wishes.

It was inevitable that once Victoria started to accept overseas travellers that we would end up with some infected people arriving in the state.  It has been reported that in the last 24 hours five arriving overseas travellers have tested positive for the virus and are in hotel quarantine.

There are about a dozen hotels being used in the quarantine process, 10 of these are for non infected travellers serving out their 14 day quarantine and 2 of the hotels, referred to as "hot hotels" are reserved for infected travellers.

This was inevitable and it will be inevitable that further infected travellers will be arriving from overseas.  Lets hope that our detection and isolation procedures are better managed than last time.

Overall, Australia wide there were 12 new cases reported, 5 in Victoria, 6 in NSW and 1 in Qld, all returned overseas travellers now safely ensconced in hotel quarantine, we hope.  There are now 55 active cases Australia wide, 54 of those are returned overseas travellers.  Total number of infections Australia wide for the pandemic is now 28,024 with 20,350 of those from Victoria.

Still no deaths reported Australia wide for many days now and the death toll for the country remains at 908 and Victoria 820 of those.  There are 39 people in hospital Australia wide, none in hospital in Victoria and none in ICU.

Worldwide there is absolutely no respite 681,000 new infections world wide has taken the world wide figure to more than 71 million infections for the pandemic.  There was further 12,000 deaths reported worldwide in the last 24 hours taking the total number of deaths to more than 1.6 million.

Of those worldwide deaths the USA has reported nearly 3,000 and over 300,000 new infections in the last 24 hours.  No wonder they are trying to fast track a vaccine.

Remember: Wear your mask when you are buying your Bunnings sausage; no holidays in Britain for a while yet; be careful planning your computer upgrades (my most recent upgrade cost me $1,400); somebody is probably checking your poo; if in doubt get tested (it doesn't hurt, honestly); get the catgut strings in your tennis racket checked; as from 11.59pm tonight you can have a beer at the bar; keep an eye out for Germans with funny little moustaches; don't let possum pee rot your woodwork, beer comes in slabs not crates; if you visit Melbourne don't check into a "hot hotel".
