Blog Day 161 - Sunday 13 December 2020
Going to be warm in Melbourne for the next few days, 30 degrees forecast for today, at 12.30pm in the afternoon it is already 29 degrees. With a couple of 30 plus days to follow.
Victoria has one further case in the last 24 hours, a returned overseas traveller, a boy aged under five. This brings Victoria to 6 active cases, all returned overseas travellers in hotel quarantine. We still have zero active cases in the community.
NSW is reporting one active case, but NSW does not count the 74 returned traveller cases in quarantine as active cases in their state figures. So NSW's figures are slightly misleading but I understand the reasoning behind reporting in this manner, although I wouldn't encourage it in Victoria.
We need the Victorian figures to be as open and transparent as possible so that we don't give the state government the opportunity to fudge the figures in any way.
Victoria received the results of 6,200 tests in the last 24 hours, NSW 9,100 tests and Qld 2,800 tests.
Victoria has 6 active cases, NSW 1 (not including o/s travellers in quarantine), Qld 21, WA 11, Tas 4, and NT 10. There is 53 active cases nationally, 52 of which are returned overseas travellers.
There is no sign of any improvement in the worldwide figures with 688,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 10,600 new deaths in the same time period.
The US has started distribution of the Pfizer vaccine with vaccinations to start on Monday.

Remember: Wear your mask when you are buying your Bunnings sausage; no holidays in Britain for a while yet; be careful planning your computer upgrades (my most recent upgrade cost me $1,400); somebody is probably checking your poo; if in doubt get tested (it doesn't hurt, honestly); get the catgut strings in your tennis racket checked; as from 11.59pm tonight you can have a beer at the bar; keep an eye out for Germans with funny little moustaches; don't let possum pee rot your woodwork, beer comes in slabs not crates; if you visit Melbourne don't check into a "hot hotel".
