Blog Day 163 - Tuesday 15 December 2020

Today's forecast was for 30 degrees, at 12.30pm it is nearly 34, far too hot to be out walking.

After reporting one new case in hotel quarantine yesterday there has been no new cases in Victoria in the last twenty four hours including returned travellers.

Two pieces of news out of the good ol US of A today.  The electoral college has confirmed Biden as president elect after California's 55 electoral college votes took him over the 270 votes threshold.  It will be interesting to see where it all goes from here.  This probably means that I have lost the $10 that I bet on Trump winning the election.  Up until today the TAB website has shown my bet as pending.

The other bit of news out of the US is that they have started inoculating people with the virus vaccine.  What a massive task to inoculate enough people to start to make a difference.

It looks like Germany has gone back into lockdown until January 10 to combat an increase in infections in that country.  South Korea who has been held up as an example of how to deal with the virus has recorded 1,000 plus new infections in the last 24 hours.

I am doing my Christmas cards today - both of them.  Would hate to miss the post.  Very Christmassy in this household.

There were six new cases reported Australia wide in the last 24 hours, none in Victoria, 5 in NSW and 1 in Qld, all returned overseas travellers.  Victoria received the results of 8,300 test in the last 24 hours, NSW 5,300, Qld 1,700 and SA 1,600.

Currently there are 47 active cases Australia wide with 7 of those in Victoria.  Of the 47 active cases 46 are returned overseas travellers.

Worldwide there were 528,000 new infections reported in the last 24 hours, down from 561,000 the previous day.  There were 8,400 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, an increase on the 8,100 reported the previous day.  These figures are lower than the general trend although I think that it is due to the inconsistencies of the weekend reporting rather than the vaccinations taking place in Britain and the USA.

Remember: Wear your mask when you are buying your Bunnings sausage; no holidays in Britain for a while yet; be careful planning your computer upgrades (my most recent upgrade cost me $1,400); somebody is probably checking your poo; if in doubt get tested (it doesn't hurt, honestly); get the catgut strings in your tennis racket checked; as from 11.59pm tonight you can have a beer at the bar; keep an eye out for Germans with funny little moustaches; don't let possum pee rot your woodwork, beer comes in slabs not crates; if you visit Melbourne don't check into a "hot hotel"; don't bet on a sure thing in the US elections.
