Blog Day 177 - Tuesday 29 December 2020

I think that Australia maybe in a bit of strife with the cricket, which is far more important than anything that is happening with the virus.

It is day four of play in the second test between Australia and India being played at the MCG.  With an hour to play in the morning session Australia are 7 wickets for 157 runs leading the Indian first innings score by 26 runs.  The Australian batsmen are Green and Starc, Green is supposed to be an all rounder but it is only his second test and Starc is a bowler.  Things are looking grim.

Talking about cricket it reminds me of a mate of mine waiting for his wife to give birth.  This was in the days before the father attended the birth and it was traditional for the father to wait in the maternity ward waiting room.  Anyway this mate of mine was waiting in the maternity ward waiting room and was watching the cricket on the telly.  Another bloke comes in and says "how's it going mate"? and my mate said said "not real good mate" and the other bloke said with concern in his voice "I'm sorry mate, what has happened"? and my mate said "mate they are all out and the last one out was a duck"!

I see that Sydney is still having it's new years eve fireworks, but nobody is allowed to go and watch them.  There you go, Victoria isn't the only state to do incredibly stupid things.

 A quick update on the virus figures as I have to go out and about today.  A quick trip to Mornington to pick up a friend (if I can find one) and then out for barbecue wings and accompaniments.

Eleven new cases reported Australia wide in the last 24 hours, nine in NSW and 2 in Qld.  Six of the NSW and both of the Qld cases are returned overseas travellers.  No new cases of any sort in Victoria in the last 24 hours.

There are currently 187 active cases in Australia of which 44 (excluding NSW) are returned overseas travellers.  Victoria currently has 7 active cases.

Overseas the numbers are starting to build up again from the lower weekend reporting.  There were 526,000 new infections reported worldwide in the last 24 hours for a total of 81,652,000 infections for the pandemic.  There were 9,443 deaths reported worldwide in the last 24 hours making a total of 1,780,850 deaths worldwide.

Covid Safe Summer Reminders;

Remember; no hugging and kissing strangers on new years eve!; don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things; as the captain of the Graf Spee said "you have to be bigger than anything faster and faster than anything bigger".
