Blog Day 184 - 05 January 2021

Just a quick blog today as I am shortly heading out for lunch, what's that I hear you say? "Graeme, are you never home"?  May I remind you that in the last nine months apart from the last few weeks I was home every day all day as were my fellow Victorians.

A couple of interesting things going on;
  • Apparently there is a likelihood of the Melbourne Grand Prix being deferred or postponed.  This is hot off the press and discussions between the GP organisation and state government are on going.
  • Westin Hotel debacle.  The Westin Hotel in the CBD was to be used as the quarantine accommodation for the tennis players and their entourages in Melbourne for the Australian Open.  Just one small hitch, nobody mentioned this to the very important people that live in the same tower as the hotel, a number of them in multi million dollar penthouse apartments.  We are talking people at the very top of Melbourne's social, business and legal community.  After threats of injunctions etc the hotel offered them $150,000 to allow the accommodation of the tennis players to go ahead.  This would be pin money to these people and the offer was rejected. It would appear that the Westin has now withdrawn from the quarantine arrangement and TA are now scrambling to find an alternate accommodation.
  • Britain has gone into close to total lockdown a third time.  The new virulent strain of the virus is running amok and the health services are close to being overwhelmed.
  • Sydney is going to continue with the 3rd cricket test, although spectator number have been severely reduced to something like 10,000 per day.
  • The NSW/Vic border could remain closed for all of January, good luck to the Victorians trapped on the NSW side of the border.
As the German receptionist said "that is all that you need to know for now".  Updates on national and international figures to follow over the next couple of days.

    I have been so busy I forgot about this blog until today and thought I'd log in and read what I'd missed... I definitely didn't think you'd still be keeping it up tho! Well done you! A+ for perseverance

    Thank you for the A+ for perseverance, but what about an A+ for informative and amusing. And what do you mean you have been busy, after all you have only bought a house, moved twice, looked after a 5 year old and a 1 year old and been working full time.......and you call that busy???

Blog day 3: Thursday 26 March 2020 Its funny to think that this time last year I was a couple of days away from heading off to Europe for 5 weeks, my how things have changed.  On that trip the only medical issues I needed to concern myself with was twisting an ankle on a cobblestone or recovering from a hangover, wouldn't want to be there now. Blog Day 522 - Sunday 05 Sept 2021 - Day 31 of Covid Lockdown V6.0 Extended   There was an interesting piece in The Australian newspaper yesterday with the headline "Catholic Health Plea to Protect Jab Objectors".  In part the article said, and I quote "Indeed Catholic teaching holds that no one should be forced to have a vaccine or be discriminated for exercising a conscientious objection". I would be interested which part of the bible discusses covid vaccinations or indeed vaccinations generally. I also like the story of the Sydney family who snuck into Victoria to visit family or friends and then snuck back into NSW using the backroads, naturally without any of the required permits or exemptions.  Everything was going hunky dory until the children of the family started boasting about their trip out of town to their mates at school.  SPRUNG! Blog Day 589 - Tuesday 16 November 2021 - Day 18 of Covid Normal The Andrews government have back pedalled a little with their new draconian pandemic legislation.  The fine for individuals breaching the new pandemic rules has been reduced from $92,000 to $45,000 for individuals.  That is a relief, far better to be fined $45,000 than $92,000, I wonder if you could enter into a payment plan?   There is still a lot of opposition to the legislation from the most unlikely of bedfellows, including the Human Rights Commission, the Melbourne legal profession, the usual suspects of various flag waving ratbag groups and anti vaxxers as well as regular members of the public.
