Blog Day 304 - Monday 25 January 2021

Sitting inside with the blinds and curtains drawn as we are heading for 40 degrees today.  At 12.30pm in the afternoon it is 37 outside and a comfy 22 indoors.  A cool change is due to sweep through at 5.00ish this arvo and the forecast temperature for Australia Day tomorrow is 23.

As a bit of light amusement I have decided to include some of Sleepy Joe's "misspeaks" - such as the most important issue facing the middle class was a three letter word: "Jobs. J-O-B-S. Jobs". Plenty more where that came from.

Today is the 12 month anniversary of the first virus infection to be recorded in Australia, little did we know what the future had in store for us.

Coincidently on the 12 month anniversary of the virus in Australia the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has provisionally approved the Pfizer vaccine for use in Australia.  Still no date as to when it will be rolled out to the eagerly waiting population.

New Zealand has recorded its first local transmission of the virus in two months.  A 56 year old woman who has recently completed hotel quarantine has tested positive to the virus.  Given NZ has done an incredibly good job of managing the virus this must be of concern to them.

Victoria has reported 6 new infections in the last 24 hours, all ROTs and 3 of whom are associated with the AO.  NSW and Qld have reported 3 and 2 new cases respectively, all ROT's.  Australia wide there were 11 new cases reported, all ROTs.  Victoria has now gone 19 days without a community transmission, but as we have seen from the NZ case above we can't afford to get complacent.

Victoria received the results of 11,800 tests in the last 24 hours, NSW 8,700 and Qld 4,100.

Currently Victoria has 31 active cases, 30 of whom are ROTs.  Of the 31 active cases in Victoria 9 (30%) are associated with the AO.  NSW has 56 active cases plus 67 ROTs not included in their figures and Qld has 15 active cases all ROTs.  Australia wide there are 123 active cases, 66 of whom are ROTs except for 67 ROTs in NSW who aren't included in their figures.

Worldwide there were 463,000 new infections reported in the last 24 hours and 9,600 deaths.  These figures reflect the usual under reporting over the weekend.  However, the US and UK figures seem to be maintaining a pattern of slight declines in both new infections and deaths.

Covid Safe Summer Reminders;

Remember; stay safe and sober for the new year, I know I will be; no hugging and kissing strangers on new years eve!; don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things; as the captain of the Graf Spee said "you have to be bigger than anything faster and faster than anything bigger"; to wear your mask indoors (again); if you have a tickle in your throat, get tested (again); to add Brissie to your list of places to avoid; at a 1st birthday party be first in line for the fairy bread; try not to spend too much at Bunnings; bowls is the only game where the players are allowed to have a bias; if you see a big hole, take a photo; vote 1 Trump in four years time; brighten up your day by patting a puppy; don't start lining up for your jab yet; if it is 40 degrees where you are keep up your fluid intake, I know that I will be.
