Blog Day 316 - Saturday 06 February 2021
One of my regular readers from from FNQ has suggested I add journalists to the list of professions who should get either of the well regarded and thoroughly tested SputnikV and Sinopharm vaccines. This suggestion has prompted me to also add politicians to the list. This should leave enough of the proper stuff for the rest of us.
I am sure that you would be as devastated as I am to hear the Michael Clarke (one of Australia's less notable cricket captains) and his latest squeeze, Pip Edwards (who has done nothing of any consequence that I am aware of but like me is probably an influencer) have separated. Below is an unposed photo that I took when I last had dinner with them.
As you have probably gathered it is a bit of a quiet day on the virus front.
Some good news, we now have a program for the return of volunteers to the Shrine. I have completed my on line training and have my reinduction training next Thursday and we should be up and running by the week starting Saturday 20/2. Those of us who do the education tours can expect to be back doing those from Monday 22/2 after a bit of familiarisation with the Ed staff of the changes implemented due to the Shrine and the tours having to be Corona safe.
Further good news the U3A courses are back face to face from next week. My Military and Maritime history group reconvenes next Friday for our usual 2 hour session.
All those concerned at the Shrine and U3A have done a great job in keeping us all connected in the dark days of the various lockdowns and isolations, however it will be great to be back face to face.
Victoria has recorded its second day of no local transmission of the virus. So far we haven't recorded any transmissions from the recent breakout of the virus from the quarantine hotel. So far we haven't been told where the virus originated or how the hotel staff member caught it. It has been confirmed that the virus is the super contagious UK variant. We have been incredibly lucky and well managed that there hasn't been any community outbreak connected to this case.
Victoria has reported zero cases in the last 24 hours including ROTs, NSW, Qld & NT have all reported 2 new cases each, all ROTs.
Victoria received the results of 23,227 virus tests in the last 24 hours, so the results of the testing blitz in the last few days are beginning to roll in. NSW tested 12,500, Qld 7,700 and WA 9,400 (5/2).
Currently Victoria has 22 cases, 21 of which are ROTs, NSW has 9 plus 36 ROTs, Qld 5 all ROTs and WA 11 including 10 ROTs. Nationally there are 52 active cases including 41 ROTs, plus NSW's 36 ROTs.
Worldwide there were 485,000 new infections reported, this is starting to show a reasonably strong downward trend on a weekly basis. There were 14,500 deaths reported in the last 24 hours and this is also starting to show a downward trend although not as strong as the infection rate downward trend.
On 5/2 the US reported 120,000 new infections for the 24 hours, this is continuing a reasonably strong downward trend for new infections. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the daily death rate, with 4,900 new deaths reported for the 24 hours this is trending slightly higher.
The UK reported 20,400 deaths on 5/2 and this continues a downward trend of new infections, however unlike the US this downward trend in new infections is starting to translate into a downward trend in numbers of deaths. The UK reported 915 deaths in the 24 hours of 5/2.

Covid Safe Summer Reminders;
Remember: to think carefully before mucking around with spreadsheets and tables in Blogger; to keep up your Covid era exercise regime; if you put your mask on when you enter a shop you can take it of again when you leave ( I seem to get home and realise I still have my mask on).
