Blog Day 317 - Sunday 07 February 2020

I had my first hot cross buns of the season for brekkie this morning.

Being Sunday and a day of rest, although there is very little rest to be had here, I have decided to present an abbreviated version of the blog today and just update the daily figures.

Nearly 1,200 close contacts of the infected quarantine hotel worker have tested negative for the virus.  There have been no community transmissions as a result of this outbreak, however the health authorities are claiming that we need to wait another week before we can be sure that we have got away with this one.

Victoria has now gone 3 days without a community transmission.  In the last 24 hours Victoria recorded no new cases of either local transmission or ROTs.  Both NSW & Qld reported one new case each and in each case it was a ROTs.  All up there were 2 new cases reported Australia wide both ROTs.

In the last 24 hours Victoria received the results of 14,900 test, NSW 9,200 and Qld 4,625.

Currently Victoria has 20 active cases, one of which is a local transmission, NSW has 9 active cases plus 34 ROTs, Qld has 6 active cases, all ROTs and WA 11 active cases of which 10 are ROTs.  Australia wide there are 52 active cases of which 41 are ROTs, plus NSW's 34 ROTs.

Worldwide there were 450,000 new cases reported in the last 24 hours and nearly 12,000 deaths.  Worldwide the new infections per 24 hours are continuing to decline however the best that can be said for the number of deaths is that it is holding steady.

In the last 24 hours the US reported 128,000 new infections which is continuing a downward trend, unfortunately at 3,500 deaths in the last 24 hours this is not declining, but like the worldwide figures at least they are holding steady.

The UK reported 19,204 new infections in the last 24 hours which also continuing to decline.  The UK reported just over a 1,000 deaths in the same period and this is starting to show a very small decline.

The decline in the new infection figures in the US and UK must start to be reflected in a decline in the death figures in due course, lets hope so anyway.

Covid Safe Summer Reminders;

Remember: to think carefully before mucking around with spreadsheets and tables in Blogger; to keep up your Covid era exercise regime; if you put your mask on when you enter a shop you can take it of again when you leave ( I seem to get home and realise I still have my mask on).
