Blog Day 318 - Monday 08 February 2020

First up, the good news, I have identified a source of some new jokes and although I can't claim them as my own I would be proud to.  "Did I tell you about the time I had kleptomania? It's OK because when it gets bad I take something for it".

Now if that doesn't brighten your dreary day then nothing will, and plenty more where that came from.

Now for the not so good news.  The ineptitude of this government and it's ministers continues.  Victoria has 450 further ADF personnel arriving today.  The health minister Martin Foley has said he has no idea why they are coming here, what they are going to be used for and that they weren't requested.  The Federal Defence minister has contradicted this and said that they were requested by the Victorian State Government and if they hadn't been requested they would not have been sent.  Anyway it seems like somebody in minister Lisa Neville's department requested them but didn't tell anybody. Ministers Foley and Neville are probably from different factions and therefore don't talk to each other.

NSW has reported a community transmission and this case is of some concern.  A ROT was discharged from hotel quarantine after being in isolation for 14 days and showing no symptoms.  However this person has now tested positive at 16 days, two days after discharge.  This has only just been reported and the matter is currently subject to further investigations.

Victoria has also reported a case of community transmission.  A worker at the Holiday Inn at Tullamarine which is being used as a quarantine hotel has tested positive.  About 100 or so close contacts at the hotel are isolating for 14 days and a list of places that the worker visited before testing positive has been published.

Similar the to the previous hotel quarantine infection the authorities are a little perplexed as to how the infection has been transferred.  In both cases it is claimed that all the proper procedures and protocols were followed by both people.

The concern now is if there are any further community infections from the latest hotel infection case, so far so good.

So, in the las t 24 hours Victoria has reported one new local transmission, as discussed above and no ROTs, NSW has reported 1 local transmission and 2 ROTs and Qld has reported 2 transmissions, all ROTs.  Australia wide there were 6 new infections reported in the last 24 hours 4 of which were ROTs.

In the last 24 hours Victoria received the result of 11,400 test, NSW 11,400 also and Qld 3,800.

Victoria currently has 20 active cases including 18 ROTs, NSW 9 active cases plus 33 ROTs, Qld has 7 active cases all ROTs and WA has 11 active cases including 10 ROTs.  Australia wide there are 53 active cases including 41 ROTs plus NSW's 33 ROTs.  Apparently NSW is still taking the lions share of the ROTs hence it has a higher number of infected ROTs than the rest of the states.

Worldwide there were 348,000 new infections reported in the last 24 hours and 7,870 deaths. These figures are showing a strong downward trend but this is because of the vagaries of the weekend reporting more than any genuine decline.  The figures later in the week should be more reliable.

The reliability of the US and UK figures will suffer from the same weekend vagaries referred to above, so I won't make any comment but you can see them for yourselves in the table below.

Covid Normal Reminders;

Remember: to think carefully before mucking around with spreadsheets and tables in Blogger; to keep up your Covid era exercise regime; if you put your mask on when you enter a shop you can take it of again when you leave ( I seem to get home and realise I still have my mask on); to laugh at my jokes.
