Blog Day 322 - Friday 12 February 2021

At 12.30pm in the afternoon we are waiting for the premier to make an announcement at 1.00.  Cabinet is currently meeting and at the moment it looks like we could be heading for another lockdown, possibly for five days.  I wonder if the premier will remind us again how good Victoria's "gold class" hotel quarantine is.

It is now 1.20pm in the afternoon and the premier is talking on the wireless.  After cutting through his waffle he has announced that Victoria is going into a 5 day lockdown from 11.59pm tonight until 11.59pm next Wednesday night.  This lockdown is at stage four restriction and includes all the usual things that we have got used to;
  • Only 4 reasons to leave home;
    • Shopping for essential items
    • Care giving
    • Essential work and school that can't be done from home
    • Exercise for 2 hours per day
  • Have to remain within 5km of home address (with exceptions)
  • Masks to be worn at all times outside of the home
  • No private or public gatherings
  • Schools closed
  • Non essential retail closed
  • Hospitality closed except for take away
The one I like is "weddings not permitted except for compassionate reasons".  Wondering what a compassionate reason is for a wedding the mind boggles.

The premier didn't mention our "gold class" hotel quarantine.

At least the "curse of the blog" can't be blamed for this one.  If I hadn't done the blog yesterday there is a fair chance I would be run out of town on a rail by now.

Apparently the supermarkets are already awash with people panic buying.  Which reminds me I might have to go out and panic buy some tonic water, got plenty of vodka though.

Another two people have tested positive taking the infections from the Holiday Inn cluster to 13.  One of the people infected in this cluster worked a full shift in a café at the airport whilst infectious.  This is causing concern in other states as some 100's of people attended this café during this period, many of whom would have been catching flights interstate.

Terminal four at Melbourne airport has now been declared a tier 1 exposure site meaning anybody who was there at certain times must be tested and isolate for 14 days.

It has been confirmed that all of the Holiday Inn infections are the more contagious British variant of the virus.

In the last 24 hours Victoria reported 5 new virus infections, all related to the Holiday Inn cluster.  NSW reported 2 new cases, all ROTs.  Australia wide there were 7 new infections reported, 2 of which were ROTs in NSW.

Victoria reported the results of 24,000 tests in the last 24 hours, NSW 14,500 and Qld 7,100.  Obviously the testing in Melbourne has ramped up due to the current cluster spread from the Holiday Inn.

Currently there are 19 active cases in Victoria including 12 ROTs, NSW has 3 active cases plus 34 ROTs, Qld has 6 active cases all ROTs and WA has 8 cases 7 of which are ROTs.  Australia wide there are 45 active cases including 34 ROTs plus 34 ROTs in NSW.

Meanwhile worldwide the figures are still continuing a down ward trend and Victoria's outbreak of 13 cases isn't going to affect that much. In the last 24 hours there was a little over 108 million new infections compared to a little under 108 million the day before, however the downward trend still continues.  There were 12,400 deaths in the last 24 hours and this continues the downward trend in worldwide deaths.

The US & UK new infection and death figures continue a downward trend.  There were 93,000 new infections in the US in the last 24 hours and 3,200 deaths.  The UK recorded 13,000 new infections and 1,000 new deaths in the last 24 hours.

Corona Virus Daily Stats – February 2021 – Covid Normal (as much as possible)
*Please note that the “Aus Active & Aus ROTs columns do not include the NSW ROTs.  (ROTs = Returned Overseas Travellers)

Covid Normal Reminders;

Remember: to think carefully before mucking around with spreadsheets and tables in Blogger; to keep up your Covid era exercise regime; if you put your mask on when you enter a shop you can take it of again when you leave ( I seem to get home and realise I still have my mask on); to laugh at my jokes; it is a beautiful day out there, get out and enjoy it; keep your corporate governance up to date; bring yourself up to date with the stage 4 lockdown rules.
