Blog Day 326 - Tuesday 16 February 2021

Welcome to day 4 out of 5 of the current lockdown.  In the media conference today the premier was not prepared to make any commitment to not continuing the lockdown after tomorrow.  The final call on this will not be made until tomorrow.

One good thing about the lockdown is that with a lot less vehicles around it is a lot easier to get across East Boundary Rd on my Corona Virus approved walk.  (It would be ironic if on my Corona virus walk I got run over by a Toyota Corona).

An interesting development has arisen out of the Holiday Inn outbreak.  The chap who used the nebuliser (whatever that is) which may have caused the virus to spread in the facility and who has been cast as the villain in all of this has publicly stated that he had permission on more than one occasion whilst in quarantine to use his machine.  He also stated that DHSS personnel offered to arrange for him to get more ventalin for his nebuliser.  He has made these statements from his hospital bed in ICU.

All along the various state agencies in charge of this have said that he should not have had a nebuliser and he certainly wasn't given permission to use it.

Hmmmm, I wonder who is telling porkies here, and on past experience I know who my money is on.

Interestingly the premier is refusing to answer questions on this matter, this usually means that there is something rotten lingering.  If he is confident that he is right he tells the world about it, but he is dead batting this one and saying it is a matter for DHHS and CQV to deal with.

If anybody is looking for a good movie to watch in lockdown I can recommend "News of the World", starring Tom Hanks.  It is currently on Netflix and if you like Tom Hanks you should enjoy it, I know that I did.

NSW is currently on 30 days of zero community transmissions, how many days of zero transmissions is Victoria up to.......oh, I forgot NONE! I haven't got the numbers in front of me but NSW has taken something like 50% of the ROTs and three times the number that Victoria has taken, lucky we are the state with the gold standard hotel quarantine and contract tracing, just imagine where we would be without that.

Onto the figures.  Victoria has recorded 4 new infections in the last 24 hours, 2 local infections from the Holiday Inn cluster and 2 ROTs.  NSW has reported 1 new infection, a ROT.  And that is it Australia wide.

Victoria received the results of nearly 24,000 tests in the last 24 hours, NSW 12,300 and Qld 7,500.

Currently Victoria has 25 active cases including 18 ROTs, NSW has zero active cases excluding 27 ROTs, Qld has 7 active cases all ROTs and WA has 5 active cases including 4 ROTs.  Australia wide there are 45 active cases including 37 ROTs plus 27 ROTs in NSW.

Worldwide the trend in new infections and deaths continues to be downward with 284,000 new infections and 7,000 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

The US and UK figures continue to show a steady decline.  The US reported 64,000 new infections and 1,100 deaths in the 24 hours of 15/02.  The UK reported 11,000 new infections and 289 deaths in the same period.  These are very promising figures for both countries especially the UK.

To date the US has vaccinated 53,000,000 people or 16% of its population, the UK 16,000,000 being 23% of its population.  The leader in % of population vaccinated is still Israel at 76% of its population vaccinated.

Of course Australia has vaccinated 0% of its population, apparently the vaccination roll out starts next week in a program of priorities for health workers etc.  (The 40,000 people overseas who are trying to get back into Australia might be better off where they are, at least more chance of being vaccinated).

Covid Normal Reminders;

Remember: to think carefully before mucking around with spreadsheets and tables in Blogger; to keep up your Covid era exercise regime; if you put your mask on when you enter a shop you can take it of again when you leave ( I seem to get home and realise I still have my mask on); to laugh at my jokes; it is a beautiful day out there, get out and enjoy it; keep your corporate governance up to date; bring yourself up to date with the stage 4 lockdown rules; to buy your valentine day flowers before lockdown; those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones; even in lockdown look both ways before you cross the road.
