Blog Day 336 - Saturday 27 February 2021

You have to love this virus thing, it is the virus that keeps on giving and giving.

When the hotel quarantine process was set up it was apparent that NSW would be taking more than it's share of ROTs so it was agreed between the states that the other states would reimburse NSW for their residents who did their hotel quarantine in NSW.

So NSW has sent out the bills to the other states, Queensland has received it's bill of $27 million and has defiantly said that they are not paying it!  Not only that but the deputy premier of Queensland, Steven Miles, who nobody outside of Queensland has ever heard of, has filmed himself theatrically tearing up the bill and posted the video on his twitter site. Obviously the television stations didn't think that this example of self aggrandisement was worth sending a camera crew to film.

They are certainly different folk in Qld.

For once Victoria is not the centre of this controversy as we have agreed to pay our share of the bill, the amount is still being calculated.

And now for the next fun virus story.  It is reported in the Australian today that the doctor who bungled the vaccine injections in the elderly couple in NSW, Dr Sujoy Roychowdhury, another good Irish name, already had conditions on his doctor's licence and was required to practice under supervision.  To be fair the conditions on his licence would not have prevented him giving vaccination type injections.  I reckon he might have a few more conditions on his licence by now.

The next fun virus story relates to NSW.  Apparently many of the good folk who went into hotel quarantine in that state are refusing to pay their hotel quarantine bills.  One chap said and I quote "I am financially able to pay but it's a matter of principle, it's my right to refuse to pay".  Sue em I say, that's also a matter of principle.

The only reason people in Victoria are refusing the pay is that we haven't actually sent out any bills yet.  Right on top of our game here in Victoria.

After two locally transmitted cases yesterday in Victoria we are back to the zeros today.  The two cases yesterday were known associates of the Holiday Inn cluster and were already in isolation.

Australia wide there were 7 new infections reported, 6 in NSW and 1 in Qld, all ROTs.

Victoria received the results of 10,300 tests in the last 24 hours, NSW 12,700 and Qld 5,900.

Currently Victoria has 15 active cases, including 5 ROTs, NSW has zero local active cases and 37 ROTs and Qld has 12 active cases all ROTs.  Australia wide there are 35 active cases including 25 ROTs plus 37 ROTs in NSW.

We are hardly breaking the sound barrier with the speed of the rollout of the vaccination program.  In the last 24 hours Australia wide we managed to vaccinate 1,231 of the good folk of this country for a total of 24,700 vaccinations  for the week.  This is under 1% of the population, at this rate it will take a couple of years to give everyone the jab.

Worldwide the daily new infection figures are trending slightly upwards at 419,000 in the last 24 hours.  The daily death figures are still trending downwards at 9,000 in the last 24 hours.

The daily new infection figures in the US are also trending slightly upwards, nothing to panic about yet but it wouldn't want to continue for too much longer.  In the last 24 hours as at 26/02 the US reported 75,000 new infections compared to 69,000 on 19/02.  The US reported 2,237 deaths for the same 24 hour period continuing a downward trend.

The UK continues a downward trend in new infections at 10,000 in the twenty four hours as at 26/02.  Deaths also continue a downward trend with 324 deaths in the same 24 hours.  It seems terrible to say that 324 deaths in 24 hours is a good result but when you consider that not long ago the UK was reporting over a 1,000 deaths a day it sorta puts it all in perspective.

Corona Virus Daily Stats – February 2021 – Covid Normal (as much as possible)

Covid Normal Reminders;

Remember: to think carefully before mucking around with spreadsheets and tables in Blogger; to keep up your Covid era exercise regime; if you put your mask on when you enter a shop you can take it of again when you leave ( I seem to get home and realise I still have my mask on); to laugh at my jokes; it is a beautiful day out there, get out and enjoy it; keep your corporate governance up to date; bring yourself up to date with the stage 4 lockdown rules; to buy your valentine day flowers before lockdown; those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones; even in lockdown look both ways before you cross the road; to enjoy our refound freedoms, while they last; if you are Irish be careful attending your traditional rice feeding ceremony; don't go looking for hidden things, you don't know what you might find; to pay your bills on time.
