Blog Day 369 - Friday 02 April 2021 (Good Friday)

It was on Good Friday last year, in the early days of the pandemic, when I saw a sky writer writing in the sky that 'god loves you' or some such.  I then raised the question in the blog that if god loves us why is he or she inflicted this pandemic on us.  Twelve months later I am still asking the same question and still don't know the answer.  Either there is no god or he or she doesn't really love us and particularly despises the Brazilians at the moment.  

In the twenty four hours of 31/03 Brazil experienced 85,000 new infections and 3,800 deaths, in the twenty four hours of 01/04 they reported 91,000 new infections and 3,900 deaths.  So far for the pandemic Brazil has had nearly 13 million infections reported and 321,000 deaths.  This is happening in a good Roman Catholic country.  If you had faith would this make you question it?

France is another country that appears to be in a bit of strife.  In the twenty four hours of 1/04 they reported 59,000 new infections and 303 deaths, not quite up to Brazil but worrying all the same.  France has announced that they are introducing another round of lockdowns nationally.  Coincidentally France is also a strong RC country.  Maybe they have been backing the wrong deity.

It looks like Brisbane has found the missing link in one of their clusters, a nurse at the quarantine hospital who was infected and contagious but showed no symptoms.  Queensland seem to have the outbreak under control and the lockdown in Brisbane was released a few hours earlier than planned.

Now for the good news, Victoria is still recording all the zeros.  However we will start to take ROTs from next week sometime so lets hope we can manage that successfully.

Australia wide there were 8 new cases reported, 7 of which were ROTs and one new one in Qld.  Victoria and NSW both reported zero new cases.

In the last 24 hours Victoria has received the results of nearly 16,000 tests; NSW 20,000 and Qld has really pulled out their thumb and received the results of over 35,000 tests.

So for 732,000 doses of the vaccine has been jabbed into the arms of willing Australians.  

Nationally there are 163 active infections and 147 of those are ROTs.  When you compare these figures to countries like Brazil and France it makes you realise that god must love us a lot more than them.

Worldwide there were 610,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 11,769 deaths.  These figures are, after some weeks of declining, showing a regular pattern of daily increases.

After weeks of declining figures the US is now reporting slight increases in both daily infections and deaths.  In the twenty four hours of 01/04 the US reported 66,000 new infections and 1,042 deaths.  Lets hope Sleepy Joe hasn't gone to sleep on the job.

The UK continues to report declining figures although the rate of decline has slowed a bit.  In the twenty four hours of 01/04 they reported 4,100 new infections and 43 deaths.
