 This time twelve months ago I was working on my supplies in case of the complete lockdown and who could forget the following;

'And now it is time for another in the popular occasional series of "What's in the pantry Graeme"?

I must admit that I didn't have this in my pantry but saw it in Woolies the other day and thought that it would be a good addition to my emergency rations.  I don't think that I will need to worry about anybody stealing it.  Use by date is sometime in 2023, so hopefully this current crisis doesn't exceed the use by date, or is it best by date'.

You will all be pleased to know that it is still in my emergency rations cupboard.  I think I may have been a little optimistic in thinking that this disaster will be over by the use by date in 2023.

There has been another case of blood clotting possibly caused by the AstraZeneca vaccine in Australia.  The person suffering from the blood clotting is a woman in WA in her 40's.  There has been 2 cases of blood clots after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine out of approximately 700,000 doses.  This equals 1 case per 350,000 doses in Australia compared to 1 in every 250,000 doses in Europe.

Victoria is up to day 46 with no local infections and with 3 infected ROTs all in hotel quarantine.  NSW has 56 active cases of which 55 are ROTs; Qld has 55 active cases 51 of whom are ROTs; Australia wide there are 142 active virus cases of which 137 are ROTS.

There 18 new infections reported Australia wide in the last 24 hours all of which are ROTs.  

Qld has reported a virus death in in the last 24 hours.  The deceased was a male in his 80's who had arrived in Australia from the Philippines via PNG.  He arrived in Australia on 20/3 and tested positive on 25/3 and has been in hospital including ICU since then.  It is thought that he acquired the virus in the Philippines.  His death brings the Australian death toll for the pandemic to 910.  (Keep that in mind when looking at the death figures in some of the other countries).

In the last 24 hours there were 521,000 new infections reported worldwide and 7,653 deaths.

The US has reported 46,000 new infections and 283 deaths in the last 24 hours.  Hard to tell if their figures are stabilising or if it just variations in recording and reporting.  

The UK figures continue to decline with 1,730 new cases reported in the last 24 hours and 7 deaths.  The UK is coming out of its current lockdown at the end of this week.  Lets hope they handle it better this time around.

Brazil reported 37,000 new infections in the last 24 hours compared with 72,000 the day before.  Brazil reported 1,803 deaths in the same period and 2,616 the day before.  (See what I am saying about Australia's death toll of one in the last 24 hours and 910 for the entire pandemic).

France reported 118,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 1,400 the day before; anybody else spot the problem here?  France also reported 696 deaths in the last 24 hours and 11 the day prior.

Turkey reported 51,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 248 deaths.  Although they are not real flash at least Turkey's figures are consistent.
