Do you ever see these reports, usually commissioned by some public agency or a group that has skin in the game, and think to yourself "I reckon the executive summary of this report was written before the investigation was undertaken".  Would any organisation publish a report that says everything is ok here, no further action required, I don't think so, especially where funding is involved.

The New Zealand travel bubble has opened up today and there are numerous flights heading back and forth across the Tasman.  The travel bubble means that travel is possible both ways between Australia and NZ without having to quarantine or isolate at either end.  I daresay some sort of declaration would need to be completed at the time of travel stating that the traveller has not been exposed to the virus or is exhibiting any symptoms of the virus. This is good news and lets hope that nothing happens to disrupt it.

Below is a table of vaccination doses administered for the top 9 countries plus Australia and New Zealand.  

For the sake of the comparison between Australia and New Zealand I am assuming that all the doses administered in both countries have been first doses only.  If this is the case Australia has administered first doses to 5.67% of its population and NZ to 2.7% of its population.  Its a funny thing but I haven't heard any of the media or the usual noise makers making any comment about Saint Jacinda's lack of progress with vaccinations in NZ although they are quick to jump on ScoMo over the same thing.

Four new cases recorded in Victoria in the last 24 hours, all ROTs; 8 new cases in NSW in the same period, likewise all ROTs for a total of 12 new cases Australia wide.

Victoria has now recorded 52 days without a local infection.

Victoria has 14 active cases, all ROTs; NSW has 70 active cases 67 of which are ROTs and Qld has 25 active cases 24 of whom are ROTs.  Australia wide there are 156 active virus cases of which 152 are ROTs.

Worldwide the new infection and death figures are continuing to cause concern.  In the last 24 hours there were 526,000 new infections and 10,498 deaths.  The number of virus related deaths worldwide now exceeds 3 million with 3,009,200 deaths to date.

The US new infection and death figures are down for the last 24 hours with 52,000 new infections reported and 669 deaths, but I wouldn't be breaking out the champagne just yet, lets see if that continues or is just an aberration.

The Brits reported 2,300 new infections in the last 24 hours and 36 deaths.  They appear to be holding their own at the moment without any significant movement up or down.

Brazil reported 67,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 2,900 deaths; Turkey 63,000 new infections and 288 deaths and France 36,000 new infections and 189 deaths.

To date for the entire pandemic the US has recorded 567,000 deaths; Brazil 372,000 deaths; the UK 127,000 deaths; France 101,000 deaths and Turkey 35,000 deaths.  These five countries account for 1.2 million deaths and if we add in Mexica with 212,000 deaths and India with 178,000 the total for these seven countries is 1.590 million or over 50% of the world total.

These figures are almost incomprehensible and impossible to visualise the dead as individuals, what will be the long term impact on these countries with losses of this magnitude?  And the truly scary part of all this is that the virus related deaths are showing no sign of abating in many of these countries.
