Blog Day 426 - Saturday 29 May 2021 - Day Two Lockdown Version Four

My word I had forgotten what a pain in the backside walking with a mask on is.

Amazing how all of a sudden people have a driving desire to walk carrying a take away coffee cup and no mask, and they all seem to be thirtysomethings wearing exercise wear and black Kathmandu puffer jackets.  There is a thesis in there somewhere.

I think that I have previously mentioned that a friend of mine and regular reader and contributor to the blog is doing some fairly extensive family history research.  With six days of virus lockdown looming ahead Jo has found some long gone family members who need a bit of research into their military history.  Two of these long lost rellies were nurses in TGW, an area that I haven't delved into before, so this should be interesting and keep me occupied during lockdown, thanks Jo.

Day two of our seven day lockdown and the state health minister is refusing to be drawn on whether the lockdown will be extended or not.  I daresay it will all depend on the figures towards expiry of the current seven day period.

In the last 24 hours Victoria reported 5 new local infections and 2 new infections in ROTs.  Currently there are 35 active cases in Victoria connected to the current outbreak.  Tier one and two exposure sites continue to be added to an ever growing list of sites including a number of late night entertainment venues.

Victoria received the results of 56,600 tests in the last 24 hours, which is another record for daily test results.  In the same period 21,000 vaccination doses were administered in Victoria.

The phone booking service for vaccinations has been unable to keep up with demand with many people unable to get through or are waiting for long periods to make appointments to get the jab.  Apparently the QR recording and management system crashed at the Exhibition Building and Melbourne Convention Centre vaccination sites first thing this morning.  Walk ups expecting to be vaccinated were told there would be a six hour wait whilst documentation was completed manually.  Some of these people had already been waiting a couple of hours waiting for the centres to open at 8.00am.

The rest of Australia is doing OK with no local infections recorded anywhere but Victoria.  All the other states have imposed travel restrictions of varying severity on travellers from Victoria.

Meanwhile around the world things are rolling along with some countries up and some countries down but with little overall change to the worldwide figures.  In the table below I have developed a little system of colour coding.  If the number is green it means that the daily figure is declining, if it is red the figure is rising and if plain there is no significant change.  India's daily infections are still declining, the US is worryingly increasing again, Brazil is still increasing and the UK is showing a slight increase.  Worldwide the figures are remaining static with no significant upward or downward movement.
