Blog Day 415 - Monday 17 May 2021
Some of you may be aware that I have applied to work with the ABS on this year's census, my word what a saga. Before I start on this remember I am applying for a part time, casual role, for a limited time as a Field Manager for the census for the ABS.
So far I have lodged an on line application, completed an online putting round pegs into square holes test, attended a "one way" video interview, provided references who have been contacted, attended a phone interview and completed and provided an application for a police check.
As well as the above I have sent a couple of emails to try and find out what is going on with my application, I have also made unanswered phone calls and left messages that have not been responded to.
In the middle of all this I received a letter advising me that my application had been unsuccessful. I sent an email asking on what basis my application was unsuccessful. I was contacted, eventually, by a nice young man who asked me if I was still interested in a position and upon my reply to the affirmative proceed to conduct my recruitment interview.
And, by the way the training was supposed to have started on 6th May 2021!
Lets hope the census is better run.
Now back to the real world, what is happening virus wise around the traps.
One of the Australians on the first repatriation flight from India has tested positive to the corona virus and is currently in quarantine in the Howard Springs facility in NT.
In the last 24 hours there were 4 new cases reported Australia wide all ROTs. There are currently 154 active cases Australia wide of which 151 are ROTs. There are 24 people in hospital Australia wide and 3 of these are in ICU.
So far this year there has been one death due to the corona virus and that was on 12 April and prior to that the there was one death on 28/12/2020. Current number of deaths Australia wide is 910.
As usual I am a little loath to place too much reliance on the international figures early in the week. For the sake of completeness I have posted the table of the usual culprits below.
The US and French figures seem to be underquoted the others look more correcter but I may be corrected in that. We will see what happens over the next couple of days.
