Blog Day 427 - Sunday 30 May 2021 - Day Three Lockdown Version Four

This morning was the coldest May morning since 1949, but it is turning into a beautiful Melbourne autumn day with blue skies and a maximum temperature of about 16 degrees.  Great weather for getting out and about and doing things........bugger, I forgot, we can't get out and about and doing things.

Major disaster on my walk this morning, the elastic band on my facemask broke and in trying to repair it it broke off entirely.  There I was at the halfway point of my walk and no wearable face mask.  And this was after glaring at dozen people for not wearing theirs.

So I headed for the backstreets and scuttled home like a fugitive in the night, although it was morning and not dark, desperately hoping that nobody would glare at me and that I wouldn't get caught by the mask police.

Now when I go for my walk I will have to wear a mask and carry a spare.

Back to virus and lockdown stuff.  The Victorian government is not accepting the blame for any of the current kerfuffle.  This morning the acting deputy assistant state premier, James Monaro, has blamed the following;
  • Federal government for failure to roll out the vaccine program properly
  • Federal government for failure to maintain job keeper payments
  • SA state government for failure of their hotel quarantine system (now there is the pot calling the kettle black)
  • Microsoft for the failure of the vaccine booking system.
Note that in all of this the state government is not accepting any responsibility for any of the cockups.

There are now over 170 identified tier one and two exposure sites in Victoria including Chadstone shopping centre and Mount Ridley college.  Seven hundred teachers and students at Mt Ridley have been identified as close contacts of one infected student.

Five more local infections were identified in Victoria in the last 24 hours plus one ROT.  Currently there are 40 identified cases in the current local infection cluster and 9 ROTs.

In the last 24 hours there were 15,300 vaccine doses administered and the results of 45,300 tests received.

The worldwide figures aren't telling us too much today as we enter into that black hole that is the weekend figures.  From the information available there doesn't appear to be any significant increases in either new infections or deaths in the countries that I am monitoring.

Argentina appears to have popped up on the radar with 39,000 new infections in the last 24 hours and 560 deaths.  Might be worthwhile keeping an eye on.

The new infection figures for the UK appear to be creeping up a bit, probably no reason for panic but I bet the authorities there are keeping an eye on things.  If they are not they should be.
