Blog Day 430 - Wednesday 02 June 2021 - Day Six Lockdown Version Four

Well, this has a sense of deja-vu all over again.  The deputy assistant acting premier has announced that the lockdown in Melbourne metro will continue for at least another seven days from 11.59pm tomorrow night when the current lockdown period expires.

The rules for metropolitan Melbourne have been relaxed slightly in that we can travel for 10 km from home instead of 5km and school years 11 & 12 can go back to face to face learning, plus some other minor changes.  We still have to wear mask and can only go out for a limited number of reasons.

The rules for regional Victoria are being relaxed further but there will not be a "ring of steel" around metropolitan Melbourne.

Why o why is this only happening in Victoria, every other state has managed their outbreaks with the minimum of fuss and inconvenience but every time anything happens here it blows out into a full blown emergency.  I haven't considered this before but is it possible that we have an incompetent state government and public service, or is it everybody else's fault like the state treasurer and the deputy assistant acting premier so regularly and loudly reminds us.

In the last 24 hours Victoria recorded 6 new cases of local infections and no ROTs.  Currently Victoria has 67 active cases of which 14 are ROTs, leaving us with 53 active local infections.

NSW has 31 active cases of which 31 are ROTs and if you do the math this means that NSW has no active local infections.  WA is the only state to have any active local infections, and did I mention that they have one!

In the last 24 hours Victoria received the results of 51,033 tests and NSW 21,551 tests.  Nothing like a bit of a crisis to get people of their bums.  In the last 24 hours 19,000 vaccine doses were administered in Victoria, this figure does not include Victoria's share of 138,000 doses administered by the Federal govt in the last 24 hours.  I have no idea if any of these figures include doses administered by GPs.

The frustrating thing is that none of these figures add up, as an accountant if one of my staff presented me with these figures they would get one more chance to get it right or............  I forgot these are public servants, they don't have to worry about the 'or...........' bit.

Worldwide the figures don't make any more sense.  I have introduced a new colour into my colour coding for my international table.  You may recall that red was bad meaning figures going up; green was good meaning figures coming down and no colour signified no significant change.  I have now introduced brown to indicate the figures are rubbish and can't be relied on.

I will allow today's international table to speak for itself.
