Blog Day 433 - Sunday 06 June 2021 - Day 10 Lockdown Version 4 (extended)

The snow season is due to open next weekend on its traditional June long weekend opening.  I don't know if there is any snow at the resorts, not that that matters, as there is rarely any skiable snow in the Victorian resorts on the opening long weekend anyway.  Due to the various lockdowns last year the ski resorts had a miserable season and are desperate for a better season this year.  There are real and genuine concerns that if this lockdown continues in any form past next Thursday or even if travel restrictions continue the start of the season will be stuffed.

And to really lay the boot in the Melbourne Demons AFL team are experiencing their best season in something like a century and a half so the Demons fans who traditionally drive their Range Rovers to the snow every year will be staying home to watch their team experience a once in a lifetime season.

Life in lockdown in Melbourne is rolling along with two new local infections reported in the last 24 hours, both known contacts of existing outbreaks.  Currently Victoria has 70 active locally acquired cases with the balance comprised of ROTs.  As usual the sums don't add up but I have given up worrying to much about that.  Trying to reconcile these figures would drive me bananas.

Although down from the recent peaks, testing numbers in Victoria remain high with 29,600 test results reported in the last 24 hours.  It would appear that nearly 30,000 vaccinations were administered in the last 24 hours in Victoria.

The rest of the country is cruising with no local infections for many days.

There are currently 16 people in hospital Australia wide including two in Victoria.  None of these 16 are in ICU.

Worldwide the daily new infection and death figures continue to look promising although we are entering the statistical black hole known as the "worldwide weekend figures".

The Indian daily infection figures, of which I have been a bit sceptical, continue their downward trend with the daily death figures doing likewise.  This is good news as the decline continues to be significant.

The US and Turkey figures continue their downward trend.

The Brazilian and French figures are rubbish and not to be taken seriously.

Unfortunately the UK daily infection figures continue to rise although not by large amounts, but I would think enough to be concerning.  It appears that once the Brits appear to have the virus under control they lift all restrictions and everybody gets out and about, probably drinking warm flat pints of beer, singing "Knees Up Molly Brown" at their local and watching nil all drawn soccer games, and the virus gets out of control again.  They should all be sitting at home watching Coronation Street, eating spotted dick (or haggis in Scotland), drinking Watneys Red Barrel and singing "Keep the Home Fires Burning" and other patriotic songs.
