Blog Day 435 - Tuesday 08 June 2021 - Day 12 Lockdown Version 4 (extended)
Cold, wet and miserable here today, and then there is the weather..............
The acting, assistant, deputy premier, pro tem, James Merino, has told us today that the source of the Delta version of the virus has been located however the link between this person and the Delta cluster is still unknown.
The Delta virus carrier was on a flight from Sri Lanka and tested positive on arrival in Australia and went straight into hotel quarantine. At the end of the quarantine period he returned a negative test for the virus and was released into the community. This person lives in the Glen Eira area (that's a bit close to home for me) and has no known links to the Delta cluster which is based around the North Melbourne area.
Oh, and remember that this was the cluster that Mr Marinara tried to blame on NSW.
Mr Monaro has told us that this case highlights the need for a remote quarantine facility and that is why the state government is proceeding with this with some urgency. Seeing as how we have had the virus in our midst for some 18 months now and not a sod has been turned in building said remote quarantine facility I would hate to see what was happening if it wasn't urgent.
I am half heartedly thinking about buying a new car, I like my Subaru Outback and it has only done 85,000 km but it is now 8 years old. I would buy another Outback but they are expensive, so I have been having a bit of a look around at alternatives.
The other day, before lockdown, I was driving past a Suzuki showroom and as the Vitara is one of my options I popped in to have a look. They had one new Vitara on the showroom floor and weren't expecting any more for 3 or so months and were only getting 2 then and didn't know what configuration what be available.
Apparently the supply of new vehicles is a real problem for many of the dealerships, caused by supply chain problems as a result of the virus and a lack of parts such as computer chips. Maybe stick with the Subaru for a bit longer.
Victoria has reported two new locally acquired infections, both related to known clusters and both already in home quarantine. There were no other locally acquired cases reported in the rest of Australia.
Victoria administered 25,146 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours for a total of 1,487,343 doses of which 1,355,199 doses are the 1st and 132,144 are the 2nd.
In the last 24 hours Victoria received the results of 25,000 tests.
Are these figures solid enough for us to get out of lockdown at 11.59pm on Thursday. Only time and the whim of the state government will tell.
Worldwide the figures as they are are still looking promising with continued declines in India, Turkey and Japan. The UK is now holding its own although their figures have gone up a bit in the past few days.
The figures for the other countries on my little table are still unreliable. These should start to come good from tomorrow for a few days.
I have added two extra columns to my table comparing the total number of infections for each country to its population and reporting that as a percentage and likewise for the total number of deaths.
