Blog Day 439 - Monday 14 June 2021 - Day 18 Lockdown Version 4(extended light)
Once again the Queen's Birthday honour awards have been announced and once again I appear to have missed out on my well deserved gong.
Maybe my nomination was lost in the mail, although I did send it by registered mail to avoid such an event, or maybe the gong itself has got lost in the mail. I must check with the lost mail office.
Whilst looking through the list of awards to check if my award was listed out of order, guess who I found had made the grade. Our ex police commissioner Christine Nixon has been awarded an AO for services to policing! What nonsense. Remember this was the person who fiddled while the state burned, who said that we didn't have a gang problem and was probably the worse police commissioner this state has had since Thomas Blamey.
Well, if she can get a gong there is still hope for me.
The Victorian government spokesman has indicated that there will be a relaxation of the existing virus restrictions this week but was a bit coy as to what these changes will be.
Two new locally acquired virus cases reported in Victoria in the last 24 hours. Both children who are known contacts of existing cases in different clusters. No other locally acquired cases have been reported anywhere else in Australia. Victoria just doesn't seem to be able to get on top of these things.
My sources tell me that Victoria received the results of 21,000 tests in the last 24 hours however the press is reporting that there were only 17,000 test results received in the same period. Possibly an overlap in reporting time frames.
In the same 24 hour period there were only 11,900 vaccine doses administered in this state. This is the lowest daily figure since 24/5. It is going to take a long time to achieve herd immunity at this rate.
As usual the worldwide figures over the weekend leave a little to be desired in terms of accuracy and reliability. However talking in general trends, India's figures are still declining, Brazil's figures are still increasing and the USA figures appear to be a bit doubtful. The UK figures are still climbing slightly and finally the UK government have admitted that they are a little concerned at this situation. Typical British understatement here old chap, another cup of tea?
Whether they are accurate or not the worldwide totals of daily new infections and deaths seem to continuing to decline.
